Hello Home Edders!
It's been a while since after I made my first post here. I'm back for good now.
How have you all been?
For this post and like the title spells, I'll be writing on ways to get your kids to concentrate and up their study game.
Let's go!
Every job is about getting results and there are some jobs that you just get used to because you've done it so many times. But not teaching! No!
That's because, you the teacher may he used to that subject but how about the child? Kids are never the same especially not in their learning and development capacities.
When I took up the job, the first few days were me trying to know each child well, bond and ascertain the best approach and teaching techniques to use. Because kids are very different, and what works with one may be futile with another.
Be a peer
I realized that a way to easily get all of their attention is by being a kid first; coming down to their level.
I let them feel like they are in the midst of their peers where they are free to just be themselves. Actually, when I start with a child, I tend to be strict, to pass an unspoken rule that we're here for business but overtime, I hand them the reins of control.
Diversify activities
Now, I have a mix of kids and I took my time to study what they love the most so sometimes; we draw, we gist, we play games, we see cartoons, we put on some music and maybe dance, we tell jokes, we eat together, we even take short walks. By incorporating what each one likes to our learning space, their interests are aroused and for everything they do, I make sure to participate to an extent and that endeared us to ourselves. They know when to play and when not to.

E-learning.
Kids love movies and the media and I take this reality to my advantage so I put on movies and cartoons. They learn new words and how to infuse it in their speaking, their phonetics improve, depending on their ages, they learn colors, names of things, they learn to think critically and bring up their assumptions and criticisms. E-learning opens up a whole new level of growth for them.
Embrace their errors.
I'm always the biggest hypewoman of every child I coach. Whenever they make mistakes, we sometimes make a joke of it and then take corrections. They do same with me. By doing so, these kids wouldn't be scared to share their failures and come to me for better methods of approach.
Listen to their opinions/Communicate
I created a safe space where we get to talk about how we are, challenges we may be facing, life in general and just anything irrespective of how silly it is. The minds of kids are blessed with so much creativity and curiosity and out of those little minds, genius ideas are brought forth. In course of teaching, I let them share ways they think might be best to approach something.

Take a back seat.
Some days, I give each child an opportunity to be me. To be the teacher. I let them teach the best way they can, ask questions, come up with their own techniques. Not just does it boost their confidence, better their analytical skills and comes off as fun to them, but I also learn their strengths, weaknesses and can work on them.
Every moment including fun times are avenues to learn. I use images, videos, drawings, errors made, to teach and it always worked. Kids like people who are attentive to their needs
Before long, I had kids who were grumpy during lessons being overly excited about class.
Being an educator goes beyond book-work. It's a tough one as much as it's dynamic. There are times you may have to be more than a teacher. Teaching can be fun and easy if you study the child and pull the right strings.
Thank you for gracing this post.
Greetings!
