This is another time of the year when cute ghosts are roaming around to find treats, that will make them go in peace, especially their hungry and rumbling stomachs. A trick is waiting for those people who won’t give justice to these treat-seeking fellas.
A week ago, my mother was contacted by the homeowner’s association asking for her permission if she’s willing to participate in trick or treat event in our subdivision. Of course, she’s not the one that will go to each house to get some treats, but she will be assigned to sponsor the candies and we will be the ones who will distribute them to the kids. However, my mother is hesitant if will accept the offer since she already had a bad experience with this kind of event.
A few years ago, my mother was also contacted by the homeowner’s association to give candies, and knowing how cute and fun this activity is, she immediately accepted the offer. So as a preparation, a few days before the trick-or-treat day, she bought a decent number of candies to be distributed to the children. Then the day came and unfortunately, she didn’t anticipate the volume of children and her candies were not enough. She felt sorry but some ‘Karens’ also known as ‘marites’ in our country didn’t show some decent respect and got annoyed with my mom. Since then, she felt embarrassed and never participated anymore in events in our subdivision.
I encourage her to join once more, and we will help in repacking and distributing the candies. She seems hesitant at first but eventually, we got her sweet ‘okay’. I am also excited about this trick-or-treat event because, for the first time in two years, I will see the kids roam again on the streets flaunting their Halloween costumes. Gosh, I thought I hated children but this pandemic made me realize that I missed their innocent and playful character. I am excited to put some smiles and excitement on their face and contribute to their pleasant childhood memories :).
We bought a lot of candies as a preparation. We provide some ‘backups’ in case there’s a large influx of children asking for treats. All in all, I can say that we repacked hundreds of packs of candies, too much more than what the organizer said.

Look at these taste buds-inducing stuff. I am trying hard to refrain from eating these sweets since I became health conscious recently. I consumed a lot of sugar in my diet during my midterm week, which became my comfort food to boost my mood and keep my brain active despite the lack of sleep. I am anxious that consuming additional sweets plus the inactive lifestyle would do something bad to my body. I am not getting younger so I must control the things I input in my nutrition.
October 29, 2022 — the day when the kids were scheduled to venture all over the streets to search for candies, but due to the onslaught of the typhoon, it was moved to another day.

When everything went calm after two days, the little fellas, accompanied by their supportive guardians, decided to roam again to continue their agenda. In today’s Halloween event, I witnessed several little cute monsters and wholesome spirits rushing to the doors of different houses. Some decided to be an ally of darkness, and some decided to portray their favorite movie character — spiderman and a fairy that I don’t even know what’s name.

A few minutes after, I heard a soft knock on our gate, which was followed by a ‘magic phrase’ they cited in unison to inform us that the time has come, and we must surrender and give their treats or else something not good might happen.
“Trick or treat — Happy Halloween!”
My mother called our attention. My brother brought the reservoir of candies while I prepared my smartphone camera to take some pictures of the event.

There are still a lot of candies left unconsumed but it was eventually given away to those children who decided not to register for the event but still roamed on the streets asking for treats. I consider them lost souls, lol.
I guess, everyone enjoyed the trick-or-treat event including my mother. You can see in this photo how happy she was, and it warms my heart be that case. She also said that it was a fun experience, soothes her that it was indeed successful.

After the children went trick or treating, they went ahead to their relaxation area to watch the clown show organized by the homeowner’s association (sadly I don't have a picture). This is the first time they have included a clown show and the reason is that they want to give children a wonderful experience after getting stuck in their homes during the pandemic. Good job on that!
I guess the hungry and rumbling stomachs of the cute spirits are at peace again. Aside from the satisfied tummies, I think the adults did a great job of satisfying their visuals and making the event fun and memorable. I believe that will be enough for a year, until the time when they will crave sweets again.
