We used to hear in our college days that once you get the placement and started doing your job then your life is set. But the problem with IT job is that the technology changes quite fast and thus if you have to be relevant in the IT you need to upskill as much as possible.

I am software developer from the last 10 years. I know stuff and work for them. But again I too have to learn everyday to be relevant in the industry. For example, when I started my job I have started with one technology. After that on the job or on the side I have to learn other technologies to be relevant as well as to ace in the interview.
The thing is if you learn everyday then the interview is a cakewalk for you. But with the age, you become lethargic, you have a lot of responsibilities and thus your time is limited. For example, I don't get much time in the evening because I have to teach my daughter for sometime, talk with her and thus the time gets limited to do other stuff. I do try to take out atleat 1 hour to study. Again along with the upskilling, I have to learn about the finance too because that is also necessary. What everyone is doing, what is new strategy and what not. And along with it, upskilling my technologies.
I can say that learning cab never stop and once you stop you will be left behind. Though I try to learn stuff, but still I feel I am so left behind and thus I have to learn so many things to be relevant in this fast paced world. Basics is one thing, but again when you have so many new technologies then everyone wants you to know something or the other. On the job learning is limited because you will be taking care of old product which doesn't require too much new learnings and it requires the changes here and there.
So we have to take out some time from our life to do upskilling and th7s be relevant in the market.
