I love this topic, childhood dream. While I was growing up, some of us would always practice what we wanted to become whenever we gathered to play, especially on days when I was allowed to go out and play with kids my age at my grandma's house.
I will always introduce a drama in the form of a career day among my friends, and it earned me a nickname Doctor. Yes, I have always wanted to be a doctor not because any of my friends wanted to, but because I have desired it for the longest time.
I remember when my mom had an injury on her leg and I was asked to come and massage it; my other cousins were avoiding it because it was bleeding.Immediately I got the first aid and bandaged her wounds before straightening and placing the leg on the chair so she won't stress it.
By the time I was done, everybody was asking me where I learned how to do that. I told them I used to see Auntie Nurse do it, so it was easy to learn and they were all stunned. Auntie Nurse asked me how many times I had watched her. I told her just once.
Everybody believed I would be a nurse or medical doctor when I grew up, but that wasn't the case because my first choice for university was medicine. I got accepted, but then my father's shop was bombed and everything was gone. I had to defer the admission and spent extra years waiting for things to get better, but they never did.
I gave up on decided to become an environmentalist, at least I just felt it's still close to medicine. At least I get to work in the lab and help clean polluted environments. But a part of me still wants to go back to school to study medicine, nursing, or even pharmacy.
But there are lots of bills to cover that won't let me go back, at least not for now. But in everything I give thanks, but who can fulfill the wish one day.
