My oldest son is just a few days away from finishing his school year, and the final projects for each subject are pretty demanding. He's really needed a lot of support from both me and his mom to get them all done. For his Language and Literature class, the final project was to create a children's story. First, he had to write it in his notebook so the teacher could check his handwriting and spelling. After corrections, they had to bind it and design it however they wanted. That's when he asked for my help.
El niño y la estrella de las almas - Un proyecto familiar de un cuento, su diseño e impresión
Mi hijo mayor está a pocos días de terminar su año escolar y los trabajos finales en cada asignatura son demandantes y a requerido de mi apoyo y el de su mamá para sacarlos todos adelante. En la asignatura de Lengua y Literatura el trabajo final consistió en elaborar un cuento infantil, escribirlo en el cuaderno a fin de que la profesora evaluará su caligrafia y ortografia, luego de las correcciones tenían que encuadernarlo y darle el diseño que desearan, fue ahí donde me pidio apoyo.
He had already transcribed his story into an online document to make editing and printing easier. Since I know my way around programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, he pitched the idea of giving the document a different look, making it seem more like a real children's storybook. He had only written the text and placed some images in parts to give an idea of what an illustration for a scene could look like – basically, just rough sketches.
El ya había hecho el trabajo de transcribirlo a un documento en línea a fin de facilitar la edición y posterior impresión. Como yo se manejar programas como Photoshop e Illustrator, me planteo la idea de darle un aspecto diferente al documento, que pareciera más un libro de cuentos infantiles. El solo había escrito y había colocado imágenes en algunas partes del texto a fin de dar una idea de la ilustración de una escena que podía acompañar lo escrito, todo esto a manera de boceto.

His story is about a boy named Gabriel who loses his parents and finds comfort in the idea that a star holds the souls of the deceased. With the goal of reaching that star, he starts building a rocket to travel into space. On his journey, he meets beings who help him better understand loss and give him advice on finding happiness. He eventually realizes that being happy comes from the relationships you have in the present and the beautiful memories of those from your past. The story aims to leave a moral lesson.
Su cuento trata de cómo un niño llamado Gabriel que pierde a sus padres, encuentra consuelo en la idea de que una estrella alberga las almas de los fallecidos. Con la idea de alcanzar esa estrella, comienza a construir un cohete para poder viajar al espacio. En su viaje conoce seres que le ayudan a entender mejor lo que es la pérdida y le dan consejos sobre la búsqueda de la felicidad. Finalmente entiende que ser feliz radica en las relaciones con quienes están en el presente y los bellos recuerdos de quienes conforman tu pasado, buscando con esto dejar una moraleja.
Since the story's theme involves space and stars, we thought it would be best to give the pages a space-related look with a whimsical, childlike cartoon style. The illustrations would have the same style, with almost every page featuring one. To create them, we used Whisk's artificial intelligence so that each image would maintain the character's likeness, ensuring a visual continuity throughout the story.
Como el tema del cuento tiene que ver con el espacio y las estrellas, lo mejor seria darle un aspecto a las hoja con motivos relacionados con el espacio, con un estilo caricaturesco infantil. Las ilustraciones tendrían el mismo estilo, casi todas las hojas cuentan con una. Para lograrlas nos valimos de las inteligencia artificial de Whisk a fin de que cada imagen conserve el parecido del personaje y así se mantenga una cronología visual de los hechos del cuento.
I adjusted the entire design in Adobe Illustrator using vectors to guarantee print quality, carefully managing the margins for binding. My son wanted the design to be like a real book, so I set up the page border format for double-sided printing. My wife then took care of binding it with a shiny fabric that matched the space-themed design of the story. That's how we ended up with this result!
Ajuste todo el diseño en Adobe Illustrator con vectores para asegurar la calidad de la imagen para la impresión, cuidando los márgenes para la encuadernación. Mi hijo me pidió que el diseño fuera como el de un libro, así que ajuste el formato del diseño del borde de la página para impresión en ambas caras. Mi esposa se encargó de encuadernarlo con una tela con detalles brillantes siguiendo el diseño de un cuento relacionado con el espacio y fue así como obtuvimos este resultado.
