El autorretrato se considera una herramienta de aprendizaje, una forma de exponer nuestro cuerpo, pero el autorretrato también ejemplifica cómo nos sentimos y cómo somos interiormente. Es una especie de testimonio sobre quién eres y cómo te presentas.

The self-portrait is considered a tool for learning, a way to expose our bodies, but the self-portrait also exemplifies how we feel and how we are inwardly. It is a kind of a testimony about who you are and how you present yourself.

Pero una cosa es cierta: en el mundo de la fotografía profesional, el autorretrato ha sido una herramienta importante para los artistas que lo han utilizado como vehículo para su propia catarsis y exorcismo emocional, dando como resultado magníficas obras de arte.

But one thing is certain: in the world of professional photography, the self-portrait has been an important tool for artists who have used it as a vehicle for their own catharsis and emotional exorcism, yielding magnificent works of art as a result.

El autorretrato es un proyecto que avanza hacia lo que verán los demás y en el que pueden posicionarse para transmitir una imagen, un sentimiento o simplemente un referente.

The self-portrait is a project that moves towards what others will see and in which they can position themselves to convey an image, a feeling, or simply a reference.

A lo largo de los años, los autorretratos del artista en su obra se desarrollaron a partir de una función puramente autoral de una herramienta de autopromoción. Los autores comenzaron a plasmar en sus obras un yo idealizado, donde es posible observar sus más profundos deseos y aspiraciones, ya sean sociales, personales o incluso estéticas.

Over the years, the artist self-portraits in his or her work developed from a purely authorial function of a tool for self-promotion. Authors began to capture in their works an idealized self, where it is possible to observe their deepest desires and aspirations, be they social, personal or even aesthetic.

En el mundo actual, esta función de autorretrato de aspiración es la más utilizada, especialmente en los canales de comunicación digital. Los retratos de los autores que aparecen en las redes sociales, también conocidos como selfies en este contexto, tienen una estética muy alejada de la realidad. El uso de filtros faciales que cambian la forma y proporciones del rostro permite a los usuarios ponerse en situaciones en las que pueden mostrar diferentes aspectos de su personalidad que de otro modo quedarían ocultos por la cámara.

The authors portraits that appear on social media, also known as selfies in this context, have an aesthetic that is very removed from reality. The use of facial filters that change the shape and proportions of the face allows users to put themselves in situations where they can show different aspects of their personality that would otherwise be hidden by the camera.
