| I find this topic very exciting and look forward to the other contributions. I think Jon Lord with his Deep Purple was the first to start using a whole symphony orchestra for a live performance. Of course there were artists like Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant or the Beatles with their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, who used classical instruments. On the other hand, there are classical interpreters, such as the Kronos Quartet, who play Jimi Hendrix on their violins.
