We can’t do without equipment, gadgets at home, work place, even outdoor fun needs the right touch. The right kind of equipment in the right place can bring beauty, and even relief.
I will share briefly how a very tiny [almost insignificant] equipment has helped my life – mainly my pockets.

Over here in Nigeria, the inflation is wild. A clear picture is me going into the market days ago to be told my favourite noodle brand was now N9,000 for a carton. I decided against buying that day and steeled myself the next day to get it because noodles are just an easy food. On return, I was told it was now N10,500. I bought it that way. Today it is N11,000.
When I and mom were moving places, we bought so many things from furniture to gadgets. Of course, we have the necessities and those we can do without. For a while, I thought an Electric Kettle wasn’t necessary but now…it is a miracle!
Last year, the price of gas climbed by a ton. It is unbelievable that we now buy what used to be N300/kg at N1000/kg. Until now, I had no idea how much using gas to heat water was detrimental to my pocket.
I an mom use mostly hot water to bath. Our bodies are very sensitive to cold which is why it would be absolutely suicidal to attempt using cold water in any season at all. So, we would heat our water up with the gas – morning and night!
We bought a boiling ring at some point but the compound we stayed had very unsafe wiring [the landlord was more concerned about saving cash] and so the tenants were stopped from using electricity for anything other than watching TV, using the fridge and ironing clothes.
One time, the wires caught fire because some tenant thought they could use their electric cooker and get away with it. The funny part – that is not so funny – is how the fire started from the roof over our room. Thankfully, we are safe and lost nothing. But anyway, I digress.
So, moving here, Mom and I decided to get an Electric Kettle because the landlord assured it was absolutely safe. Why? We would be using prepaid meter. We got the little guy and I saw massive improvement on our budget. Previously, we buy gas every two weeks but we have stayed a month now without the thought of the Gas station.
I think of it with gratitude. It is a significant improvement and all from something so small. So, the best equipment I have purchased is my trusty Kettle.
Mom and I are going to get a bigger one as we need to boil water twice with this one to get the desired results. Not a bad thing, but a bigger one would not be bad either.
