Hello all, Welcome to my Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge. This Week we have TEMPORAL MASTER as our theme, however I do not have that card nor rent it from someone else, so as the replacement I pick this VULGUINE. VULGUINE is a Rare Rarity Life Element Monster from Reward Edition. It's a free card you can get from loot chest.
VULGUINE QUICK REVIEW
Shorten lore: Vulguine are foxes cursed with vampirism. Vampires who denied to feast on humanoid flesh stalked the forests to find fresh meals.
Vulguine is a 2 mana monsters so as you see the stats above, he won't offer you something that is great. For me his fox is great, because it only needs 2 mana, it means you can save up more mana to pick other monsters. Any monsters which have 2 mana or lower should be considered special.
VULGUINE STRENGTH
VULGUINE HAS DECENT ATTACK. For 2 mana monsters, his attacks is good. on silver league he has 2 melee damage and 3 speed. Not a good in general, but for low mana monsters, it's great.
VULGUNE IS GROWING WELL. I know this sounds silly, but it's true. most monsters below 3 mana cap are not growing well. Vulguine is growing well, on silver league he has 2 melee damage and 3 speed, on gold league he gets dodge ability, and on his peak he gets enrage ability.
VULGUINE WEAKESS
In general, Vulguine is not special, even he is bad one. He becomes very strong during certain rulesets only. These are the rulesets that help him becomes a strong one:
- Equal opportunity - All Monsters have the Opportunity ability.
- Melee Mayhem - Melee attack Monsters can attack from any position.
- Super Sneak - All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.
- Little League - Only Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.
- Equalizer - The initial Health of all Monsters is equal to that of the Monster on either team with the highest base Health.
Without this rulesets, or during general one, Vulguine is kind of useless.
BATTLE CHALLENGE - TESTING OUT VULGUINE DURABILITY

This was a modern format silver league battle rank. This battle is kind of one sided to me, because I was using low Silver League Cap, meanwhile my opponent was looked like a level 1 bot army. With this Equalizer Ruleset, I wanted to test how strong Vulguine was.
Position | Card | Ability | Plan and Strategy |
---|---|---|---|
Summoner | ![]() | +1 range attack | Default Life Summoner from Chaos Legion Edition |
Main Tank | ![]() | Scavenger | Our main theme this week. We will see if he can be a good tank on this ruleset |
Second | ![]() | Life Leech | Bila is one of my all time favorite Life ELement monster. She hits hard, and leeches opponent's health |
Third | ![]() | Slow | Most versatile and useful Chaos Legion Mage. |
Fourth | ![]() | Tank Heal | The only healer in my team. I hope she will keep Vulguine alive |
Fifth | ![]() | Double Strike | My second damage dealer after Bila. |
Last | ![]() | Blast | My third damage dealer and my backline tank. I like her a lot better than Pelacor Arbalest due to her armor, she could withstand a couple hit from Sneak Attackers |
Round 1
- This battle started by each parties buffed and debuffed monsters.
- My opponent came with 14 Melee Damage and 3 range damage, combined all become 17 damages per turn. It's a big number regarding they were a bunch level 1 monsters
- My team had 2 Melee damage, 5 magic damage, and 9 range damage. Total damage was 16 damage per turn.
- Both of us seemed to be equal in term of damage per rounds.
- First move was made by my Time Mage and Followed by opponent Fineas Rage
- My team managed to take down opponent Forgotten One before he could make a move. This became the key winning factor in this round
Round 2
- My team started this round by killing their Fineas Rage.
- Not Only Fineas Rage, we killed the Radiated Scorcher too. It's a double kills in this round
Round 3
- Again, My team made a double kills. We took down opponents Lava Launcher and Serpentine Spy.
- Things seeemed to be settled in this round
Round 4
- There was nothing Tenyii Striker could do alone. Good Game
Battle Discussion:
This was a complete perfect victory for my team. We had full team member at full health, except Vulguine who got higher than his original health. The reason my team won this battle was very simple, We were faster than opponent team. Only their Fineas Rage who could keep up with our speed.
However we are not discussiong about how I won that battle, our focus is on our main theme, VULGUINE. This 2 mana monster has survived until the end of the battle, having higher health, and keep up with his team speed. I could pick other tanks which require higher mana, however I believe they would die from opponent 16 melee damage per round, not like this Vulgune. Exception for Chaos Knight due to her Shield Ability and Uriel due to his heal.
Bottom line is that Vulguine proves himself capable to compete and perform excellently against bigger opponents during specific rulesets.
Have you got yourself a good level Vulguine?
