It is one of the most popular places in Cornwall. The estate is located 5 miles from Saint Austell and just a mile away from Pentewan and Mevagissey.
For me the most iconic is the Mud Maid.
It was made using a custom-built hollow framework of timber and windbreak netting. Her hands and face are a mixture of mud, cement and sand.
I think that you can be familiar with some of the pictures that I am going to share with you. The other symbolic sculptures is the Giant’s Head, created in 1998. The face is made from mud, pinned with sycamore twigs. Metal stakes are being used for the nose. The mosaic eyes are made from glass, the hair is seed with different plants.
There is plenty to see in this place. Fungi lovers will be happy too. I’ve spotted quite a lot mushrooms while walking.
Who says that money grows on trees? Yes, that’s right! I found a proof. Just have a look at the next picture.
The coins have been embedded deep in the bark by visitors for good luck. These trunks are known as well as ‘wishing trees’.
My favourite part of this experience was the tropical garden with its exotic plants and a rope bridge that let me enjoyed the view from a different angle.
The garden is very big, so I am glad that I went in the morning. Another important part of the estate is Heligan farm. Many different types of animals can be seen in the barns. The sheeps are quite friendly.
I’ve also noticed cows, pigs, goats and others.
Unfortunately winter is not the best season for outdoor walks and bad weather can affect the quality of the experience. I definitely will go back there in the spring, when the nature is more beautiful than ever.
Thank you for stopping by and supporting. Hope you are enjoying the virtual tour of the gardens :)
