Hello everyone :)!
I never used to believe I was the kind of person who would stumble upon luck and get it served. Let alone the kind of person whoâd gather over 100 clovers with four, five, and even six leaves.
But, maybe luck finds us in moments when we need it most and maybe it doesnât always look like winning the lottery. Sometimes, itâs small and green and hiding in the grass, so look carefully ;)!
It all started just before my state exams (all students that want to take higher education have to take it) a milestone that feels both like yesterday and a lifetime ago. It will be five years next month. I was stressed, overwhelmed, and honestly, kind of hopeless when it came to math. (B level, for those familiar â English and Croatian were at A level.) Thatâs when I found them. My first two four leaf clovers. Almost like they were waiting for me to bring me hope!
I pressed them carefully, wrapped them in a bit of plastic for protection, and brought them with me to each exam. They felt like a tiny cheating emblem in my pocketđ . And you know what? I passed two exams!! Croatian and English of course, on the first go. Math however..? I wasnât so lucky... I failed it and the lucky charm âwore offââŚ.
But I passed that too, on the second try and crossed it foreverđ¤Ł!
After those first two clovers, something strange started happening. I began finding more of them. Every single day. Not just in Zagreb, but in Slovenia, on Ĺ˝umberak⌠all wild places, untouched and unplanted. We didnât seed any grass, didnât try to âgrowâ luck. It simply was there. Waiting to be picked up.
Some days Iâd find more than one. On others, Iâd go searching with purpose, scanning the grass like a treasure hunter. And then I hit 10⌠20⌠50⌠and eventually over 100. I started pressing them into a notebook, creating pages of preserved hope. Each one felt like a little reminder: that small things matter, that magic still exists; even if only for those willing to look for it.
đ Why Do We Believe in Lucky Charms?
Iâve thought about that a lot. Maybe we donât believe in the clovers themselves. Maybe we believe in what they give us: a push to try harder, to hope more, to feel connected to something bigger than our worries. For some people itâs a rabbitâs foot, or a special rock, or a bracelet from someone they love. For me; itâs a field of tiny four green leaves, each one whispering, Youâve got this!!
I still take one with me when I need a little boost. And no, it doesnât âsolveâ anything. It doesnât replace studying, practice, or hard work. But it makes me feel protected in a way like the universe left me a little message on the ground. Keep going.Youâre not alone. Try again. It will al be okay in the end.
The truth is, Iâve come to believe that âluckâ is more about perception than probability. Itâs what you do with what you find. Itâs how you see the world. A four leaf clover might just be a mutation of the common three leaf variety. But if it makes you pause, breathe, and believe â even for a moment â isnât that lucky enough? Like those clovers were lucky enough to be so rare and appreciated by the world, by being âweirdâ and standing out gets you noticed and picked!
Sometimes the most powerful charm is simply the habit of noticing. And when you start looking for joy, hope, and tiny miracles in the world⌠youâll start to see them everywhere. In a beam of sun on the grass. In a wildflower poking through concrete. And most importantly seeing, acknowledging how far youâve already made it through.
