Every choice we make has a consequence, it can either be good or bad, depending on what we pick. What we sow, is what we shall reap. it is so unfortunate that as humans making choices is what we do daily to survive. I am a risk taker, I don't fear to cross the line when it is worth it. There were many times in my life where I had to choose to either play safe by not doing a thing or take a risk by jumping into it. Whether we like it or not we must make a choice. Not attempting a thing at all in itself is a choice, but what a bad choice it is. I rather try and fail than never to try at all. But never forget to always ask yourself this question before making a choice, Am I ready for the consequences?
Is there a time you had to choice between taking a risk or playing it safe?
Yes! This happened about two years ago, I was working in a shop at terminus plateau state, Nigeria. We sell all kinds of male foot wears. My boss was one of the popular business men around there because of how costumers flow to his shop. we have people trooping in from different places even outside the state to our shop. It is a very busy shop. my boss knows how to handle customers well and as such people prefer buying goods from him than from other.
Every morning, my boss often takes the money he made from the previous day to the bank for deposit. Initially, he sends one of the trusted boys in the shop until I came in . My boss has trust issues most especially when it comes to the matter of money. He can buy anything for you and can gift you anything as far as he is moved to do so but don't dare touch even a naira from his money . As small as five naira can be, my boss can ensure you go to jail for it. When I came to the shop, I had my discipline already, God has helped me to some extent, I am being able to control myself in terms of people's properties .
Our shop grew and we have to rent another shop. After that was done, our boss divided his workers, some work at the other shop while others work in the former shop . I was privileged to be at thesame shop where our boss always stays. I never knew he kept me there to scrutinize me . He would always ask me to take money from customers and sometimes help him count money. At first I was not comfortable with it but at the long run, I got used to it. Soon, he started sending me to the bank to deposit money for him. Terminus is one of the dangerous areas in Jos, there are scammers everywhere, those using diabolic powers, those skillful at pick pockets e.t.c . in my heart I began thinking my boss wants to set me up because he doesn't give me small money to take to bank, the least he has ever given me was two hundred thousand naira . I was a boy from a village, seeing big money like that gets me scared. Well, well, I don't know if you are thinking something already, but giving a new boy, you just recruited a huge amount of money to take to the bank is a very dangerous thing, don't you think so? What if I run away with the money? Hehe.
The test continued until one day, he gave me five hundred thousand naira to take to the bank , well he told me, it was five hundred thousand naira, so I didn't bother to verify it. I zoomed off to bank. When I gave the staff the money to deposit, he asked me how much I want to deposit I said five hundred thousand naira, he counted the money and gave me back some, what is it I asked? He said it is over, over? My boss doesn't make mistake when it comes to money, what are you saying? He asked if I wanted to deposit the rest I said no! at that point many thoughts began coming into my mind, should I just pocket the money and act as though nothing happened or be nice and give him back his money?
should i be honest with you? I was so broke that day, I was not even having money to eat. After a long thought, I decided to just give him back the money. When I got to the shop and I told him, he gave me excess money, he just laughed and said did you deposit it too? I said no and I gave him the cash .
The result me
Since that day, the man trusted me above all his workers, though he was a hard man. But he even permitted me to pick from his money to eat whenever I am hungry. I was shocked, so it means that he knew, he gave me excess money, what if I had played tricks with him? I gained my boss trust because of that one act. Infact a point came where he traveled to Enugu and left me in charge of the shop for a week. I only give him report on phone. I guess I enjoyed the fruit of being good.
Will I make same choice again?
Yes!! if I am faced with the same situation, I will joyfully make thesame choice. Knowing fully that whatever we sow is what we will reap. Do you know that there was a day, he sent me to the bank and the money was not complete but he didn't bother in fact he said the fault was either from him or the bankers stole his money hehe. I can't afford to loose that kind of trust, never!!!
