Living in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, comes with its own unique set of challenges and wonderful experiences. While every city has its own inconveniences, life in Port Harcourt is entirely different, with its own atmosphere, people's lifestyle and vibes. All this can only be truly understood by those who have experienced it firsthand, if you haven't been in an environment like pH you will find it difficult to cope unless you adapt. That is the only way I will say that life in port-harcourt is survival of the fittest.
I was born and raised in Port Harcourt, in an environment I will say it was a little bit calm. Despite the peace and calmness of my immediate surroundings, I still had some unique experiences, the peculiar ones and sometimes chaotic and toxic behaviors of the people of Port Harcourt's residents. As I’ve grown and the city has also developed from what it was to a better and beautiful place to live, yet the essence of life here remains the same.
Port Harcourt Street
If you’re looking for a city where people live and yet peace is very hard to find, Port Harcourt might be a perfect definition of it. Life here is characterized by bustle, hustle, survival of the fittest, and sometimes a veneer of pretense. To survive in Port Harcourt, you must be prepared to overcome its rough edges and high pressure that the environment gives. If you’re not adaptable, the city can be unforgiving to you.
Port Harcourt Traffic
This is another wonderful aspect of port-harcourt before the past governor changed the narrative, all thanks to him for his incredible work, it was indeed one of the best government we had so far, before now, moving from one place to another within the state was a very stressful thing to do, I can remember most of the time coming back home with my family from either home and school or a church program that leads to night movement, we will stay in traffic for like three to four hours. Most of the time we do sleep up only my dad will just be awake because he is the one driving. Even owning a car doesn’t always give you a better hope. Sometimes, it’s faster and better to walk to your destination. Because you really need to comfort yourself because staying in traffic requires patience, and even short distances can take hours during peak times.
Traveling by public transport can be a mixed bag. While it can be frustrating, it also offers some of the most memorable experiences. If you travel with people that share the vibes with you, you will enjoy your journey forgetting the stress. I’ve traveled long distances by public bus, but I always make sure to book with a reputable one of the best transportation companies to ensure a relatively comfortable journey.
In conclusion, public transportation in Port Harcourt can give you a very unique experience. If you’re lucky enough to board the right bus at the right time, it can be surprisingly pleasant. However, it can also be as stressful and unpredictable as the city itself.
