If you can recall, I've been sharing how my locality is a crypto desert. No one wanted to know anything about bitcoin and such when it first began, and it's remained that way for a long time. Not any more!
You can imagine my shock when I visited our local convenience store and saw a big sign on the door: 'Bitcoin ATM Here.' Prior to this, we'd only had one crypto ATM tested at a local supermarket. The owners of the convenience store had no knowledge of the blockchain, but they do know about MONEY.
Turns out, the operator of the crypto ATM business made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Allow him to park the machine in an empty spot near the front door, and receive a guaranteed payment each and every month. Who could say "no" to some extra cold-hard cash? So he agreed, and the response so far, has been nothing short of remarkable.
He shared how people are "putting hundreds of dollars into these things" while the unit brings extra traffic into the store. So being no dummy, I also started talking to him about HIVE, and the fact that there is more crypto out there besides bitcoin. This ATM was a big decision for these guys, as like many people here there is a distrust of crypto. But you know that old say about "money talks" and the extra revenue made the choice much easier.
Since then, I've noticed the busy crypto ATM owner has installed more units in the area. I don't know how he chose this location, maybe he saw a hole in the territory as the nearest machine prior to this was almost 40 miles away. Whoever he is (and I'm assuming it's a "he" but could be anybody), it's wise to see a gap in the market and fill it. I just wish there were some way to add HIVE&LEO to a basket of tokens beyond the incumbent bitcoin.
However, at this point, I'm just happy to have more awareness of crypto at all in this area. When I first started evangelizing about the blockchain in 2009, many here saw it as some form of illegal money-printing. With the arrival of these new bitcoin ATM's, It's good to see attitudes about crypto now slowing changing for the better.
