Good evening everyone and I hope life is good. My day was great but I'm sure my weekend will be better.
Back again with another lightpainting and this time an encounter with a shadowy figure in the woods. It turns out he was my mate Paul who was sat next to me in the car on the journey there.
This is Bolehill Quarry in the Peak District and a favourite haunt of mine. It's a reclaimed quarry where the tradesmen of the day made mill stones from the local gritstone. When redundant it was planted with many silver birch trees which, now matured, make for a beautiful serene setting and a quite eerie location after dark.
I had taken the tent and the dome tool with me on the hike. Bit too windy for the tent and the ones I did get weren't very good. The tent becomes important later...
This is my pick of the bunch from the evening and was the last shot of the night.
I popped a flash behind my mate Paul for the rim light and followed that with some net curtain fire. It was a full moon and the soft ethereal light bathed the surroundings perfectly. It was so peaceful.
Apologies to the man who was having a moonlit walk who was stopped in his tracks before turning around and returning from whence he came. The prospect of two unexpected people stood in the woods in the middle of nowhere, with a childs tent on his desired route was something he wanted to avoid. Haha. I'd love to know what he thought we were doing stood about next to a miniature big top with resplendent flag on top.

A superb evening out at Bolehill Quarry with James Mills on this occasion. Not a particularly productive evening in terms of shots taken I'm happy with but lots to think about for a return journey in the coming weeks. We'd have stayed longer but all of our torches started to wain.
There will be more from me in this location as its pure magic, I've just got to figure out how best to extract the magic.
Usual rig up here with 10 seconds of side lighting followed by some net curtain for the silhouette.
Its always a pleasure to go out shooting with James and looking forward to a return trip in the near future.
