Die grüne Eicheneule ist ein Nachtfalter aus der Familie der Eulenfalter (Noctuidae). Sie zählt zu den klassischen Herbsteulen und ist derzeit in der Natur zu beobachten. Mit ihrer auffälligen grünen Musterung, ist sie eine echte Schönheit unter den Herbsteulen. Das Weibchen legt seine Eier bevorzugt an den Blattknospen von Eichen ab, an denen diese überwintern. Im Frühling frisst die Raupe die jungen Blätter, bis sie sich im Juni am Boden verpuppt. Der Falter fliegt dann von Ende August bis Ende Oktober in einer Generation. Dieser Schmetterling ist in Deutschland noch häufig zu finden und in seinem Bestand derzeit nicht gefährdet.
