I read somewhere on the discussion about what jobs will be in line when robots take over from humans in the job space. Among the variables mentioned by the writer, it was clear that corporate jobs were most likely to be affected by robots. This got me thinking about the place of Entrepreneurship and vocational skills as an escape to work layoffs should robots be deployed by employees.
Just look around the AI industry, at what's happening in terms of inventions; one will see clearly that this AI revolution they've been talking about is already here. We can't predict precisely what will happen in workplaces, but definitely, most people will lose their jobs to robots.
This has already started. They are something more than algorithms but fully framed human-like artificial intelligence robots built solely for most of the jobs that humans normally do. We all thought it was one of those jokes when Elon Musk announced that he was going to build a robot that will do the work of humans. Today, Elon Musk has achieved that with the release of the Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot. We are now into the future and no more waiting for it.
What jobs await the robots revolution?
A report by Goldman Sachs projects that over 300 million jobs are likely to be taken over by generative AI alone. These include jobs that are mostly office-based, including paperwork. Jobs in this category include finance and banking, media and marketing, and legal services. Consequently, jobs in these sectors are on the line of being taken over by AI.
On the other hand, jobs in Agriculture, manufacturing and factory work and health care would have lesser impact of AI invasion. But this is not a clearance for these industries because advanced robots like the Elon Musk Optimus are capable of doing most of the jobs in these sectors. For example, in agriculture most of the jobs could also be performed by robots. Packing and loading at warehouses could be performed by the robots. This may turn out to be a very cost-effective way for companies to run their businesses.
However, visionary Entrepreneurs will still benefit from the introduction of AI and robots rather than being displaced by them. We know AI or robots cannot negotiate; that is the very essence of Entrepreneurship. Still, other areas of operations exist in this entrepreneurial space where AI and robots can fill in.
The Entrepreneur himself must be in the driver's seat, playing the role of an employee, using AI and robots for the operation of his enterprise where necessary. As a matter of fact, entrepreneurs need not be scared of the AI revolution but rather brace themselves up to take advantage of the revolution.
While negotiations with clients and price bidding are beyond AI and robots scope, they certainly have many other roles to play for the smooth running of enterprises. Managing operations with a few resources effectively is a big challenge in most of the enterprises. AI algorithms fill the void by doing the work to save time and effort. Jobs such as marketing, data analysis can be done very effectively and efficiently by AI.
Some of the accounting jobs related to invoice processing, customer service, and relationship management can be done by robotic process automation. In this case, this will provide more free time for the Entrepreneur to engage in other pursuits.
Should more people become Entrepreneurs to avoid being replaced by robots?
Entrepreneurship entails the sale of skills, not necessarily physical products. Anyone who wants to remain relevant in the workplace with the emergence of AI and robots should master those skills that cannot easily be replaced by AI and robots.
A skill like creative critical thinking is crucial in jobs involving business ambassadors, high-level corporate strategists, or envoys where human judgment, intuition, and complex social relationships are fundamental. Also, communicative skills needed for Individual Administrations and human relations, empathy, and individual contact are very important and, in all probability, will continue to remain strictly human preserve. This relates to advisors, fitness coaches, home well-being assistants, and other jobs relating to care. The depth of understanding that comes with such work remains beyond the capacity of robots.
The entrepreneurs who know how to leverage AI best practices for business ventures remain one step forward in the future toward their improved entrepreneurial system. AI will not only simplify the conveniences of doing business in this competitive world but will also allow businesses to have competitive advantage over their competitors.
