Last night, I had the pleasure of trying one of the popular local dishes here in Singapore, the Fried Kway Teow Mee. Almost all of the hawkers' food centers here in the city will have a stall that sells this dish however it's not common that a stall would specialize in it. A stall that dares to specialize in this dish would only mean that they are "really" good at it. That got me curious so I didn't hesitate to order the version with prawn.
In their menu, there are 3 options to choose from. The basic version at S$4, the version with a prawn at S$5 which is a good deal considering the size and quality of the prawn, and the big serving version at S$6. I think the pricing is well thought out and simplified too. Somehow, it's a good strategy to motivate people to order the S$5 version.
The first thing that I noticed as I received my food was the prawn. They removed the shell and cleaned it too which only shows that the chef cared for the experience that a customer will have with the food.
There's a nice "char" flavor to the dish which I like. A subtle sweetness and savoriness also made it one of the best Kway Teow Mee that I've tried so far.
It has all the right ingredients at their best quality level too. A good example of that is the Chinese sausage, it's perfect! It's perfectly seasoned and it's tender even though it's firm. I like it so much!
In this dish, there's fish cake, cockles, and bean sprouts as well. These ingredients made the dish so addictive that I kept munching on it so quickly that I finished the meal in under 10 minutes :D.
