It’s kinda funny how some things work out. Today I planned on making another post about my adventures in MGS Peace Walker, but I got an odd request yesterday. Every summer, my mother invites my nieces and nephews up for the summer. This means that the house has a bunch of kids running around. Last year my mother bought a Nintendo Wii as something to keep them occupied on those rainy days.
The Wii was a console I grew up with and I remember how badly I wanted to mod it, unfortunately, that never came to be but as I was talking with my mother last night about it with my nephews and nieces around, one of my nephews asked me if I could mod the Wii my mother bought them.
I attempted this a while ago with almost no clue with what to do. I thought the easiest method was the Homebrew Browser, but that never worked out too well. So this time I would actually go about the way to mod it.

Before I begin this I generally don’t condone piracy, but I believe downloading older games to play that are no longer being sold in stores anymore isn’t piracy. By playing these games, no money is being taken away from the developers.
How I modded my Wii
The first thing I did was a lot of research and a lot of it was just mumbo jumbo, like about how to back up your wii on the rare chance the modding broke the console. To put it simply, nobody got time for dat. So I wanted to just jump right into it.

First, I found a guide on how to get the HomeBrew channel, which is pretty simple. The homebrew channel is what is used to launch the apps you need to actually play games from an usb stick. All you need to do to get the HomeBrew channel is change your primary DNS settings under your internet settings to 3.143.163.250, and afterwards go to the user agreement and click it. It should bring you to a screen with a character from my little pony.

Now when you click A your remote will freeze but don’t worry, just wait a few minutes and a menu should come up. Go through that menu, and you don’t have to worry about installing MiiBoot if you don’t want. Afterwards, The Homebrew channel will be installed on your wii, but this isn’t where it ends.

Next up you need a cIOS installer. These steps are very specific so I’ll link the guide I used. Even those they are specific they are easy. As long as you can read, you should be fine.

After you move the WADD files over to your SD card, it’s time to install USBLoaderGX. If you did the above steps right, your SD should contain 4 WADD files and an apps folder. What you will want to do after installing USBLoaderGX is open up its file location, dive into the apps folder, find the .exe and move that over to your Apps folder on your SD card.

Once that is done, you just have two more steps. For the easiest experience, you should download Wii Backup Manager like I did and then get to download some Wii games! The Wii Roms will come in a .rvz format. Along with that there is also some other issues with the downloads, mostly that you can’t just put them on your usb drive as you download them. They need to be put into folders with the game’s name, and region code, as that folders name.
! [Spanish]Una vez hecho esto, sólo te quedan dos pasos más. Para una experiencia más fácil, debes descargar Wii Backup Manager como lo hice yo y luego descargar algunos juegos de Wii. Las Wii Roms vendrán en formato .rvz. Además de eso, también hay otros problemas con las descargas, principalmente porque no puedes simplemente ponerlas en tu unidad USB mientras las descargas. Wii Backup Manager takes care of most of this. You will need to download Dolphin Emulator to to convert the .rvz into ISO. But that’s just as simple as going into dolphin's config settings, choosing the path in which your games are downloaded and hitting okay. Afterwards from the main screen you right click the game and hit convert and select ISO.

Pero eso es tan simple como ingresar a la configuración de Dolphin, elegir la ruta en la que se descargan tus juegos y presionar Aceptar. Luego, desde la pantalla principal, haces clic derecho en el juego, presionas convertir y seleccionas ISO.
Once this is done launch Wii BackUp Manager. You’ll want to assign Drive 1 to whatever usb stick you are using. All you have to do now is go back to the file tab, hit add, find your iso, checkmark it, and hit transfer to drive 1.

And the final step, popping that baby into your Wii! Put both SD and USB stick into the wii! Launch the Homebrew channel, select USBLoader, and after loading up you should see the channels you have on your home screen along with the games you just downloaded!

This was a really fun experience for me that I started last night but stopped because I was too tired. At first, it felt really intimidating, but honestly it’s easy to transfer files over from your computer to a usb/ sd card.
As a note the Games must be on a USB stick to read. I had a lot of trouble with them not appearing when I put them on my SD card!
My nephews are loving the wii and have spent the majority of the day playing it! They even want to have a game night tonight and one of them asked me if I could mod the one he has at his father's!
I think that I might even mod my own wii that I have sitting down here in my room as I don’t ever see myself collecting games for it! And I’ll be sure to make a post when I do!
I honestly think that having a modded Wii is a huge benefit, especially when it comes to having one for kids. The kids don’t know how to download the games or anything like that so any game they want to play gotta get run by me first, which stops them from playing games they shouldn’t be playing.
The only annoyance I can see coming out of this is being constantly asked to download them new games.. But I guess we’ll cross that bridge when it comes.
