I want to talk to you about something that happened to me today and I am sure I was not the only one in the world, as it is what we can call a "Black Swan" and it refers to an event that no one expects but can greatly affect the markets.
In this case the event happened to a single company called Super Micro Computer with the ticker SMCI on the U.S. stock exchange, but it did not affect other companies in the industry.
This is a company focused on services to companies that offer artificial intelligence solutions, which makes it an attractive company for those who want to be exposed to this industry.
I invested when it had a price of $47 per share, which meant that it had a price drop of 60% and had already consolidated its price in a range, but it also had a good earnings report and with the drop in interest rates in the United States, it was simply a stock to buy.
The surprise I had today was something that no one expected, and it was that the firm in charge of internal audits (EY) resigned to continue working with Super Micro, and this is not the only thing, but in addition to this it issued a report saying that there are immoral practices within the company.
This is something that reminds me of what happened with Enron some time ago, and how the same "immoral" activity affected investors, workers, pensioners and practically anyone around the company.
My loss?
It was a surprise to wake up today and see that in the premarket, its price was at $36, which represents a 30% drop approximately, and in my personal case, it meant a loss of $150 due to the capital I had invested, which was not much.
What did I learn?
It is important to diversify, because we can never be 100% sure of market conditions, company conditions or simply if the market is going to give the value we see to the asset where we invest.
This loss of $150 was absorbed by the gains of other assets, so it does not represent much for me, but in case I had invested all my capital in that one company, I would be crying right now for the bad decision.
That's why I always encourage people to diversify for the sake of their capital if they are going to invest.

Les quiero hablar sobre algo que me ocurrió hoy y estoy seguro de que no fui el único en el mundo, ya que es lo que podemos llamar "Cisne Negro" y que se refiere a un evento que nadie se esperar pero que puede afectar grandemente los mercados.
En este caso el evento le ocurrió a una sola empresa llamada Super Micro Computer con el ticker SMCI en bolsa de valores de Estados Unidos, pero no afectó a otras empresas de la industria.
Esta es una empresa enfocada en servicios a las empresas que ofrecen soluciones de inteligencia artificial, lo que hace que pueda ser una empresa atractiva para quienes quieren exponerse a esta industria.
Yo inverti cuando tenía un precio de 47$ por acción, lo que significaba que tenía una caída de precio del 60% y ya había consolidado su precio en un rango, pero también tenía un buen reporte de beneficios y con la baja de los tipos de interés en Estados Unidos, simplemente era una acción para comprar si o si.
La sorpresa que tuve hoy fue algo que nadie se esperaba, y es que la firma encargada de las auditorias internas (EY) renunció a continuar trabajando con Super Micro, y esto no es lo único, sino que además de esto emitió un informe diciendo que hay prácticas inmorales dentro de la empresa.
Esto es algo que me recuerda a lo ocurrido con Enron en su momento, y como fue que la misma actividad "inmoral" afecto a inversionistas, trabajadores, pensionistas y prácticamente a cualquiera que rodeara a la empresa.
¿Mi perdida?
Fue una sorpresa haberme levantado hoy y ver que en el premercado, su cotización estaba en 36$, lo que supone un 30% de caída aproximadamente, y en mi caso personal, significó una pérdida de 150$ debido al capital que tenía invertido y que no era mucho.
¿Que aprendí?
Es importante diversificar, porque nunca podemos estar 100% seguros de las condiciones del mercado, de las condiciones de la empresa o simplemente de si el mercado va a darle el valor que nosotros vemos al activo donde invertimos.
Esta pérdida de 150$ fue absorbida por las ganancias de otros activos, por lo que no representa mucho para mí, pero en caso de haber invertido todo mi capital en esa única empresa, ahorita estaría llorando por la mala decisión.
Por eso siempre invito a las personas a que si van a invertir, siempre diversifiquen por el bien de su capital.
