A lot of children grew up without learning anything that will help them apply during adulthood probably because of poor parenting or lack of parents or most especially over pampering. For instance, in my culture, A girl child is supposed to learn cooking skills from the Mum but because she has house help and maids that did the cooking she failed to learn cooking skills as a child and growing up to adulthood she finds it very difficult to cook.
Growing up as a child, it is paramount that you learn basic things that will be applicable while growing into an adult. I learnt cooking and baking skills as a child and it is really helping my adulthood. I cook and bake as a means of livelihood. I see a lot of adult both male and female, finding it difficult to cook for themselves and talk more about cooking for others. My mum used to invite us to the kitchen while cooking. She makes sure you actively participate during the cooking process. She makes you not just watch. It was always fun getting to actively participate in the cooking activity. She used to bake also for family consumption especially pastries like chin chin, meat pies, buns so you know as a child, things learnt then still stick. Now I use the knowledge of baking I learnt from my mum to bake as a side hustle and also for personal consumption. So this particular thing I learnt from my childhood has really been applicable in my adulthood.
Another thing I learnt as a child was Hair making. We lived in an environment where a stylist had a shop so I would go to her shop each time I sighted her working. I will stay there watching her step by step as she makes a person's hair till the end. So as a child without a kid sister then practicing was difficult so one day I asked my dad to get me a female Toy that had hair so that's what I used to practice. Growing up into a teenager I started having friends. I used their hair to practice but growing up as an adult I now use the idea of making hair I learnt as a child. I make some hair by myself, I do my sister and my mum's hair and a few of my close friends.
So there are things learnt as a child that we can never lose growing up and you will see that most of the things we learnt then we didn't even think about the future we were just ignorantly learning them until we came to adulthood and discover those things learnt as a child were really helpful. There are places I visit and the next thing you hear is come and cook and I will be like what if I didn't learn when I had to learn. So it is advisable for our parents to help inculcate some teachings into children because those will be needed when they grow into adulthood.
