Its not many, but there are still some bogs I haven't visited in Estonia, one of them is a bog named Seli. It is located in Järva county, in central Estonia, a little over an hour's drive away from the capital Tallinn.
I went there about a month ago and it was still very snowy at the time. Of course, you don't really see a wetland if it is covered with snow but it has a certain magical vibe when visiting with snow.
Snow was actually so deep that if I were to step off the trail accidentally, I fell knee-deep in there. There should be a wooden path but it was not visible in this exact location.
As I read before, there should be a tower somewhere in the bog. Let's just say that I imagined there would be a bigger one. That is a tiny thing but I still climbed it and got a somewhat higher view over the surrounding areas.
Under the snow, there should be small bog lakes so it's not a good idea to go wandering randomly on the snow. They can be several meters deep.
The goal was to make it to Seli Lake which is quite a huge one. The path goes much further but didn't have time for it sadly, the sun was already beginning to go down. In the photos below I have taken several shots of the lake that is under the ice and snow cover. It would have been cool to go in the middle of the lake but I didn't want to risk it. It had been pretty warm weather for quite a while, ice might not be that thick anymore, just wanted to be safe.
By the way, the silence is insane. No settlements or freeways nearby. There was almost no wind too so you really don't hear anything except an occasional bird chirping.
Spotted two big swans walking over the lake.
A couple of shots during the walk back. Sunsets in the bog are always so magical to watch.
As I said, it was my first time in Seli bog, I can imagine that this place looks gorgeous in the summer too.
