After our adventures and overnight stay in the coastal charm of Khorfakkan, we woke up with no fixed plans. We weren’t in a rush to go home, no schedule to follow. The sun was already high when we finished our late breakfast. We hope that maybe the day still had something special in store. As we roamed through Khorfakkan’s peaceful roads, my husband suddenly mentioned that we should look for a coffee shop. It was a simple idea, but it felt like the perfect signal to pause, relax, and maybe where to head next. We selected our drinks, the kind of coffee that tastes better, simply because you’re not in a hurry. While I enjoyed my coffee, my husband took out his phone, as he usually does when we’re in a new place with no plan. He’s good at finding undiscovered treasure and soon enough, I noticed that excited look in his eyes. There it was, Al Suhub Rest Area.
He pinned the location, and soon we were back on the road. Driving up winding paths that seemed to carry us higher and higher with each turn. The city slowly disappeared, replaced by mountain silhouettes and striking curves in the road. As we ascend higher, the scenery transformed from urban edges to natural serenity. The air turned cooler, the landscape quieter. Al Suhub Rest Area, located at the highest point in Khorfakkan. It's more than just a beautiful stop. A quiet haven where nature meets modern comfort. This place is 600 meters above sea level. At the top of Al Suhub Rest Area stands a circular building that instantly grabs attention. It looks just like a UFO resting on the mountain peak. Its unique structure blends modern style with a sign of mystic charm.
We didn’t go into the restaurant when we arrived at Al Suhub Rest Area. First, we walked around, letting ourselves get lost in the beauty of the place. We walked toward the right side of the area. What welcomed us was absolutely breathtaking. A sweeping sight of the coastline far below. Where the blue sea gently touched the shore. Along the sides, plants were blooming with colorful flowers that infused a quiet, natural beauty to the area. The scenery of the mountains makes a picture perfect spot. The port is visible with ships quietly resting by the harbor. Just behind it, we spotted Shark Island.
After taking in the stunning sights on the right side, we go on with our walk toward the other side of the Al Suhub Rest Area. The view that welcomed us was absolutely enchanting. This highest spot had a full panoramic view of Khorfakkan. The city gently unfolding between the mountains and the sea. The air was cool and refreshing and with the mountains behind us and this stunning view in front. We felt like we were standing at the perfect meeting point of nature, city, and sea.
After exploring both sides of Al Suhub Rest Area and taking in the breathtaking views. We decided it was the perfect time to grab lunch. We went to the awesome round building that resembles a UFO, the Fen Café and Restaurant. We were immersed in the fresh, modern design and the wall-to-wall glass windows. It offered steady views of the mountains and coastline below. The interior was modern and comfy, excellently enhancing the mountaintop setting. Perching there with a delicious meal in front of us and the awesome landscape still in sight was the perfect way to pause and savor the moment.
After we finished our meal at Fen Café and Restaurant, feeling full and relaxed, I suddenly remembered something and laughed. I told my husband we forgot to take our selfie at the panoramic view. We laughed and hurriedly made our way back outside. The sun had almost changed its golden color, shedding a warm glow across the sky.
That point made us realize we weren’t just looking for a destination, we were searching for a pause. A breath. A high place to let go of everything below. In the heart of the mountains, the clouds close and the world far below, we found it. We found our peace. We found our rest.
