¡Hola querida comunidad de hive! 😉
There are films that despite not being in the genre you normally see, they do tend to catch our attention for some things in particular. Today's case is The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a fantasy film with a touch of science. This film was released in 2010 in the United States, and is located in the genre of adventure and fantasy. It was produced by Jon Turteltaub and starred the famous actor Nicolas Cage and other excellent actors; this film was distributed by the film company Walt Disney Pictures.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a purely fantasy film, was considered a failure at the time of its release, as the box office takings did not exceed the investment made, which resulted in the total discarding of a sequel. However, the film has its positive aspects and personally I did like the film, although as I said before it is not within the genres I normally consume.
The film focuses on sorcerers, wizards and witches; mainly on the Wizard Merlin, when in the year 740 he was teaching three wizards, one woman and two men, that is to say, he was their mentor. It turns out that one of them betrays Merlin by allying with an evil sorceress called Morgana, who mortally wounded the wizard Merlin. To prevent evil from taking over the world, Merlin's apprentice girl named Veronica decides to absorb his soul and body, but Morgana begins to possess her and Balthazar Blake locks both Veronica and Morgana in a magical vessel called "Grimhold". But before he dies, Merlin gives Balthazar a ring in the shape of a dragon and tells him that with the help of the ring he will be able to find the Supreme Merlinian, who will be the only one with enough power to destroy Morgana's evil.

It is there that the search begins, a search that lasts for thousands of years. But in the year 2000 a young boy named Dave Stutler, 10, who is on a school trip, breaks away from his class to enter an antique shop, where he meets Balthazar who gives him Merlin's dragon and the dragon comes to life and rearranges itself on the boy's finger, proving that he is the Merlinian Supreme. But when the wizard Balthazar leaves to fetch a book, the boy accidentally opens the Grimhold, freeing Horvath, while the two wizards were locked in battle and trapped in a Chinese jar for 10 years.

Time passes, Dave is now 20 years old and studying physics at New York University. The curse of the Chinese pot comes to an end and the wizards go free; the first thing Horvath does is to look for Dave and chase him to tell him where the Grimhold is, but fortunately Balthazar rescues him. Dave doesn't want to be the Merlinian Supreme, but after a battle in Chinatown he changes his mind and decides to learn magic, agreeing to become Balthazar's apprentice, but finds himself in love with a girl and invites her to his lab, where he uses Physics to create a nice moment.

Dave plays the song Secrets by OneRepublic with the Tesla coils he uses for his research. Without a doubt this is my favourite part, when using the coils he plays the song and the flashes of the coil, let's say they move to the sound of the muisca. Finally Horvath finds the Grimhold and frees Morgana; Dave has to fight first against Horvath, whom he defeats using one of his coils; however, Morgana is defeating Balthazar and Dave stops her momentarily without the help of the ring, but Morgana is very powerful and with a lot of experience; it is there when Dave makes his last attempt and creates an even bigger Tesla coil, for this he uses the cables and lanterns that are in the square, and with the extra energy is when he manages to defeat Morgana.

As I mentioned at the beginning, it is a film that is considered a box-office flop but with many positive aspects to highlight. I use this production as a reference when I am about to approach the subject of electrical potential as a teaching and learning strategy in the classroom, specifically the scene where the coils are seen in operation, although the film is full of physical concepts that I can use when working in the classroom. As well as The Sorcerer's Apprentice, there are several film productions that can be used to teach science, and we will gradually unveil each of these films.
