Don’t Erase Me Scarlet!
It’s almost as if some of these basement dwellers have Johansson’s name on Google Alerts, clenching their behinds until each time her name is announced for a new role concerning a character that doesn’t have an obviously ‘white woman’ name. Well here you go you Twitter assassins, another target for your ideological politization/racialization/genderization/make-a-big-dealization of concerns that literally no one gives a crap about.
To back up for one second, Scarlet Johansson has been a strange topic for the PC mob, claiming that she uncoincidentally takes up acting roles that involve portraying a non-white, non-female lead. The biggest flare up was when she was chosen to play Motoko Kusanagi, the lead cybernetic protagonist of the classic Japanese anime film of the same name. Director Rupert Sanders was adapting it as an American live-action and when ScarJo was chosen, there was yellow fire and fury. How dare a white woman be allowed to play a ‘non-white’ role (never mind the fact that the crime fighter is almost 100% android). How did anyone think it ‘ok’ to taint the pure mind’s eye of a Japanese fiction with white skin? It’s 201X people.
In the latest of Scarlet’s crusade to appropriate every and all culture with her acting career, it was recently accounted that she would be playing Dante Gill in the movie “Rub & Tug.” Gill is a historic figure and trans man. The movie seeks to recreate his political legacy in 70/80s Pittsburgh. Naturally, many were not too happy about this casting call.
I… just…can’t. They’re calling this “misgendering” and “erasure” of a marginalized group. They’re using this to attack both ScarJo and the director. They’re just being they.
The absolute cherry on top is CNN’s “article” released earlier today - “These trans actors could have been cast instead of Scarlett Johansson in her new movie." It’s filled with tweets (of course it is) and the greatest irony is that although these actors/actresses could have been cast in Johansson’s stead, simply taking a glance and comparing their headshots with ScarJo’s one (which they used as the main image because they know full well that it would garner exponentially more clicks) provides the perfect and needlessly explained reason why they weren’t cast. None of them have name value. None of them have extensive acting careers. None of them would likely draw big box-office crowds. Try harder all you aspiring ScarJos. And especially you CNN, do better.
But in true strong, independent woman fashion and in celebration of American independence, she responded with the most polite “I don’t give a f*ck” I have ever seen on Twitter.
What really gets me about this, and this is almost pushing me to point of making anti-SJW/anti-radical leftist/anti-cultural marxism posts, is that this type of rhetoric is actually making our society more backwards and bigoted. Instead of pushing for a point where anyone can do anything (i.e. black actors can play white roles, asians can play European ones, etc.), we’re pushing people back in “their place.” Please tell me that you see the disgusting hypocrisy in tweets like this -
Anyway, good for you ScarJo. I’m rooting for you. Don’t let these idiots with nothing more to do than complain about the independent success of others rather than working on and building their own careers get you down. Please play Barack Obama in a future flick and prove to everyone that you can’t be caged because of your gender, race, physical appearance, whatever.
