What part of NO or Stop don't you understand
Come to think of it, sexual assault is becoming dominant in the world at large and most of these offenders tend to go unpunished. At least I can categorically speak from my country Nigeria. Rape is a sexual intercourse that takes place as a result of force or threats rather than consent. Rape, unlawful sexual activity, most often involving sexual intercourse, against the will of the victim through force or the threat of force or with an individual who is incapable of giving legal consent because of minor status, mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception.
Some psychological motivations of rapists are more complex than was formerly thought. They may include:
the desire to punish,
to gain revenge,
to cause pain,
to prove sexual prowess,
to control through fear,
to dominate
forced pleasure
Different types of rape
- child sexual abuse: a form of sexual contact between an adult and a child. Even if force or physical threat is not used, children are deemed to be minors and are incapable of voluntarily consenting to sexual activities with an adult. These we get to hear of how teachers harass and abuse their students sexually and these affects the children's mental and physical health.
- Statutory rape: is a sexual intercourse with a person who is below the age of concent, even though the person may give concent. Thus, The age at which an individual may give effective consent to sexual intercourse is commonly set in most countries at between 14 and 18 years (though it is as low as 12 years in some countries). But in Nigeria the age of consent is 18 years.
- Incest: Incest is a type of rape dictated by the relationship between the two parties. When the two parties involved in the sex act are closely related (in other words, they are family), it is often rape. Examples of incest include:Parents and children, Uncles and nieces or nephews, Aunts and nieces or nephews.
- Date rape/acquaintance rape: this type is committed by someone known to the person as the two people involved may be in a social relationship at the time.
HOW CAN THIS DEMONIC ACT BE CURBED
Although , most rape victims have been made to suffer in silence because of the stigma, which the society has placed on them. They are termed to be wayward, careless and loose. I mean, how can you claim that because a lady was half dressed, that gave you the right to molest and rough handle her, it makes no sense. While, most victims and come and justice was served, most cases are not regarded and rapist were left to wander and continue their lives.
It can happen anywhere, no one is safe, It happens on streets, in cars, in schools, in parks, and in alleys. The rapist has no regard for age, race, or social status. Rape is not a selective crime. It is in most cases, random. Personal safety, however, must begin with the individual. Help protect yourself by taking the steps to protect yourself from sexual assault.
- apply safety measures at home, good locks, disallow strangers into your home, security cameras in cases of househelps and so on.
- ensure safety tips while walking, don't walk alone in deserted areas, avoid shortcuts, do accept lifts from strangers.
