I've started doing this again. I don't live near the water, sadly, but I do try to pick up trash especially when it's huge and ignored, like big plastic bags just floating in the breeze. It's surprising to me how many funny looks I've gotten doing this. Like I'm doing it to personally annoy other passers by. Just seems strange to me to step out of the bag's way but not pick it up and trash it. I get not wanting to touch dirty or potentially contaminated things (although to be fair how many discarded paper coffee cups are actually containing some rare and scary germs?), but not even things that are obviously not dirty? That's just annoying.
