Tiger nut drink! Does it ring bell to you, are you familiar with this drink? Today i will be making this drink but before i let you into my recipe let me first of all tell you a little about this nut drink and it's health benefits.
Tiger nut is known with different names in different places. In the Northern part of Nigeria it's known as Kunu aya and Ofio by the Western part of it. English call it Cyperus esculentus, when the juice is squeezed out we call it tiger nut drink of which some other ingredients can be added to it based on personal choices.
This drink is cow's milk alternative, because it's plant based most people who do not consume lactose prefer it. It's of fiber, vitamin, calcium and many more. A nut that does well in improving sugar level, better digestion and good in libido lifting. This nut can be eaten raw, roasted or juice squeezed out and then taken. Some people may choose to some other ingredients like; ginger or any other ingredients they would love in it.
Personally i love taking the juice, it goes down well when it refrigerated. Though it cannot stay day without being in refrigerator under a certain degree Celsius.
INGREDIENTS
- 800g tiger nut
- 600g coconut
- 40g dates
- the coconut water
Step 1
Soak the tiger nut in water over night if you're using the dry one but if it's the fresh of which i used wash and set in the blender.
Crack the coconut, bring it out of shell and cut it into moderate sizes and set it in the blender as well.
Deseed the dates and add to the others. Then blender all together roughly and pour it out.
Step 2
Sieve the blended gradually using a little water, when done sieving, you can go blending it a second time and the second time.
After sieving you can pour into a can to refrigerate or serve in a room temperature just the way you want.
Enjoying the tiger nut drink made at home is mind blowing as you will be comfortable knowing you produced it yourself and the ingredients used will make one more comfortable because there's nothing to be scared of. As you know it's very healthy for consumption.
