The rate at which people are being scammed is quite intriguing but it's not surprising because it is what we try to escape daily. I have received a lot of messages and calls from scammers trying to get rid of my money and personal accounts. Many users are scammed on Facebook alone, due to the high rate of what I should term "scam unawareness".
I received a message from a friend on Facebook saying she wanted to give me data, I wasn't surprised because why would someone just message you for the first time to give you data, I decided to play along and she asked for my phone number which I had to halt for the moment and think twice, that's when I sent her my brother's phone number.
While waiting, for like 5 minutes later I received a message from Facebook, actually a password reset OTP which means I was about to change my password on Facebook, I was so shocked because I left Facebook so I went back in and I got a message from this data gifter, she said I should send the code so she can confirm the data transfer. I was shocked because that's not the number I gave her but it was the number connected to my Facebook account and I locked it from public view, how did she get it?
That's how I rushed to block her on Facebook before she could see my hidden password. Many links are shared on Facebook either to your message or as video, once you tap on the link it pops up a login page and requires your user and password, once you put it in you will lose your account.
There are lots of scams in Web 3 and without proper knowledge and security awareness, you might lose your tokens to scammers. During this telegram airdrop, many scam tokens require you to deposit tons of other tokens to be eligible and then ghost off without any info. Some sweep off assets from your connected wallets. I'll be sharing a few tips on how I overcome some of these scams daily.
These are a few tips I would love to share to increase awareness to other people.
Avoid clicking external links from strangers and sometimes friends because if your friend's account is scammed with the level of trust you have you will easily click on the link and get scammed easily, so always confirm from friends first.
Always research some of the airdrops you do, check out their social media handle, check their posts and comments, and also check if they're followed by any ton projects this will make it easier to different scam projects.
Don't share your personal information with strangers or friends you're not close with, because it will make it so easy for them to scam you.
