We are humans and we are social beings. And peer pressure is very common to us, except for some exceptions. You might be thinking that what is peer pressure actually. In simple words, peer pressure means the influence created by peers or individuals of one's circle or group, which can create impact on one's attitude as well as lifestyle. Influence created by conserve is one of the best examples of peer pressure.
Everything has a positive side and a negative side at the same time; that's the reality. In the case of peer pressure, it is not different either. One human can be positively influenced by peer pressure, which can be beneficial and make life better. Again, one human can be negatively influenced by peer pressure. It mostly depends on the social circle of one. A good circle brings positive influence, and a bad circle brings negative influence. And today I am going to discuss about the impact here.
I am starting with the positive influence. For a student, peer pressure can be act like a trigger and boost the speed of study. A good friend circle can motivate one to be better at studying. It's the reason parents always say to make friends with the toppers because it may act as motivation for one, although friendship has nothing to do with exam marks.
In various kinds of campaigns, like blood donation and helping orphans, peer pressure works as a motivation. Many people have the mentality to help, but various kinds of inner restrictions make it difficult for them to express what they want to express. Peer pressure works as an obstacle remover and motivates one to keep doing good work.
Some healthy habits can be started because of the influence of friends. It can be regular walking practice, doing regular exercise, or something else. From the perspective of health, it's very important and beneficial.
Success and failure are part of life. Many people lose hope after attempting some failures. Peer pressure can help one's not to stop dreaming and not to lose hope.
Many people are introverts and face difficulties expressing most of their emotions, and some can't even raise their voice for their own rights either. Because of peer pressure, some people need to speak and share their emotions, and again, they need to raise their voice for the right. In fact, in many cases, it can also help one to think outside the box also.
Let's talk about the negative sides of peer pressure. We all know that taking drugs, smoking, or doing something addictive is not a good habit, but most of the people are involved in those because of the influence of friends. That's the reason having a good friend circle is necessary; otherwise, a bad friend circle is enough to influence negativity, and that kind of activity is enough to destroy the life of a human, and it's the most destructive impact of peer pressure.
Risk-taking tendency is another negative side of influence from a friend circle. No doubt in life we need to take risks in many cases, but peer pressure can be a reason for taking unnecessary risks, and that's not a very good thing. Racing on the road is just an example of such kind of risk. It's totally unnecessary, and it may cost life if any accidents happen. In fact, each year, a lot of people are losing life which is totally pointless.
Sometimes, because of peer pressure, people almost lose of their individual characters and start to dominate themselves, which is not good for any individual. In their process, one loses their unique identity.
Whatever I have discussed here is very common and naturally happens in real life, but it mostly depends on the behavior, personality, and response to influence.
