Greetings to everyone in the Weekend Experiences community, this time I join the weekend challenge to share with you the most useful things I have, that is, my needles, these are knitting and crochet needles and I will tell you why for they are so important to me.
The needles allow me to transform an initial material, such as thread, yarn, wool or any fiber that has been spun into something completely different, that is to say that the needles are my work tool, therefore, together with my own bodily capacity, together they constitute the machine that transforms a thread into something useful, it has always seemed wonderful to me how a ball of worsted thread can be transformed into a doll, a hat, a sweater, a textile art or something as useful as a blanket, since I have seen the matter and the final result seems wonderful to me, but besides my hands and my eyes, I need the needles, so as an artist I would say that the needles are the most useful thing I have.
Crochet hooks
I would like to have more hooks of different sizes, but for now the thinnest one I have is hook #8 which measures 0.90 mm, followed by # 5, hook #4 is my favorite because with only 1.25 mm thickness I can make figures amigurumi with a thread at least 1 mm thick. I also have a #0 crochet hook, I only have a #5 aluminum one that is thicker, I would like to be able to purchase the missing numbers in the future, that is, buy a complete set of crochet hooks, I understand that there are currently some crochet hooks with ergonomic handles that avoid hand pain, being able to buy them is one of the goals I have.
With the crochet technique you can do many things, the sky is the limit, I particularly like to do small things, I love miniatures, but I can also make hats and sweaters, my favorite technique is the so-called amigurumi that consists of in making three-dimensional figures that are filled with fiber, they can be dolls but there is no rule as such either, here I show you some examples.
Two needles or chopsticks
The knitting technique with toothpicks or two needles was the first I learned when I was a child, so I'm very fond of it, although currently I use crochet more from time to time I use both needles, I have sizes from 1.5 mm to 8 mm I like these to make hats, sweaters and to make patches with the jacquard or intarsia technique that is used to make drawings on the fabric.
Circular needles
Circular needles essentially use the same technique as the two needles but are joined by a cable, this allows the fabric to be worked in a tubular way, it is useful to make clothes without seams, I like it to make hats because they are without a side seam, that is, the fabric is round and I love the result.
Needles are something completely useful for me, but I also think that it is something that can be used for the same survival, because almost any type of material can be woven with needles, so in any hypothetical situation we can solve problems with needles 😁
