He walks into the coffee shop again, just like every other day. Chloe sighted him from afar and a deep sigh escaped my lips.

As Harry saw her walking toward him with the coffee shop apron tied around her waist and the chef-like cap on her head, a broad, unintended smile appeared on Harry’s face. He called at me with his hands stretched out but Chloe asked why he was there between gritted teeth as she was only a few inches away from him. She looked from side to side, making sure none of her customers got suspicious of any looming doom.
She tried making her warm up to him by asking if she did not miss him. After being absent for months, he thought she would welcome back better. But she told him he wasn't welcomed especially not after what he did in the past.
She tried hard to suppress her anger as she stared at his face and her eyes diverted to the scar that started from his forehead, across his eyelids, down to his cheeks. A scar Chloe gave him, well, because he deserved it.
He saw that look but instead of talking about it, he blurted out about his face. He reminded Chloe that she was the reason her face looked like that. He held her arm tightly in his grip, calling for a little attention from the customers but she quickly waved it off.
Instead of giving in to him, she asked him to follow her and he slowly let go of her arm with an annoying smile across his scarred face.
Harry has been a pain in the ass since college, after dating him for eight months and realizing they weren’t a match made from heaven like he used to say. He wouldn’t let her coffee shop be, claiming it was one of “their” future goals together and only Chole running the business wasn’t a bold move. He would randomly come over, and cause a scene by cursing out loud at her and her customers resulting in an unprofitable flop for her business. This went on for several months and not even the police were helping matters. The last time he came over was the time she decided to take matters into her own hands but scarring his face with a fork did not seem to do much to stop him.
She asked him what he wanted aggressively as they got outside.
I want you. I want our business!
There was no ‘our’ with them! And she knew this.
He moved closer to her till she was a few inches away from his chest grazing hers. His hot breath fanned her face, sending an electric feeling down her spine. This would have been a romantic feeling while they were alone in the room but this just made her breathing increase with fear pinching every part of her skin.
He tried the pity story with her while stroking his hair, tucking a strand of stray hair behind his ear.
According to him, this was supposed to be their dream, they were supposed to achieve this together. Chloe yanked his hand off her face and moved back from him a little.
How much do you want?
She knew she didn't mean that question since she wasn’t making much money anyway but she was willing to do anything for him to stop obstructing her business.
He was surprised by that question. Chloe was trying to pay him off and that wasn't what he wanted. He understood being in a business for almost forever would be better than a few payoffs. The compound interest that comes with running a successful business isn't something a sane person should pass over a few present dollars. Although the risk of losing out if the business fell apart was involved, he did not mind. It was a risk he was willing to take.
Chloe was prepared to pay him off so he would stop coming around to cause scenes in her business premises. But Harry said No, his pitch was rising now, and the customers were beginning to glare at Chloe.
He tried to convince her by telling Chloe, he wanted to be with her. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He couldn't imagine any moment of his life without her. He imagined himself and Chloe standing behind the coffee counter. This was his idea to start with! She shouldn't get to actualize his idea without him being in the picture!!
At this point, Chloe let out a frustrated breath, resting her face in her palm, and told him to meet him at their former spot by 8 pm.
She had a plan and that plan is to get this done once and for all. She looked down at the baton in her hand, swinging it gently in the air. Hitting him with this in the head was enough to hurt him and at the same time make him lose his memory.
As she walked deeper into the woods to their spot, her heart heaved loudly. The plan sounded cooler in her head but stepping on dry leaves with the realization what she was about to do made her throat dry up.
As she got to their spot, he was already there waiting for her. Her breathing increased. As she stepped on a twig and he was about to turn around to face her with a smile on his face, she swung the baton to hit him but he dodged it.
Her eyes were firmly shut as she awaited a blow from him but none came. She slowly opened her eyes, looking down at his body lying on the ground with a stream of blood rushing out of his head. In an attempt to dodge the baton, he slumped and hit his head against a rock.
It was an accident. I know. But Chloe still wanted to hurt Harry when she asked him to show up there. But the way people feel entitled to other people's money, and sweat would make you think of destroying the person at the slightest convenience.
Entitlement runs deep in the individual that doesn't want to work. Mostly people who feel money should be handed over to them just because they have access to you. They don't understand that money is a result of value. Maybe if Harry had come to Chloe with a proposal to help her business make more money for a percentage or a share of the company, she would have listened. But he just wanted to use love and piggyback on her efforts, and resources.
The truth is no one ever wants a liability.
