Dominique Deveraux in a bit to gain acceptance into the Carrington family went through several journeys of building businesses and failing at them. At some point, she deserted her family and went on a search for fortune, fame, and some fulfillment that she thought would come from being successful enough to be considered a full Carrington.

But none of these things worked out, in the end, she had to accept that she might never be considered a part of CA. From then now, she started looking at everything through the glass of reality.
To make or break her, or possibly bring her the most needed breakthrough to her soul-searching fulfillment, her mom died, leaving behind a legacy in the form of fashion designs that set Dominique Deveraux up to be considered as someone in the high-rising society of Atlanta. She began by making a few changes to her response to money and made a conscious attempt to build a solid relationship with Jeff and Monica Colby, her children, whom she abandoned to seek greener pastures.
This post isn't about how she was able to acknowledge her real family existed and that they loved her despite her pursuit of acceptance as a Carrington. No! Instead, I want to point out how she never gave up nor allowed fate to decide her fortunes. She worked harder than the rest of the people in the high-rising society of Atlanta to gain recognition. I have a good feeling that if she wasn't experimenting with lots of business ideas, her mom's fashion design legacy would have gone to waste by the time Dominique Deveraux would have discovered it.
But coming from a place of experimentation and experience, she was able to have a fighting chance and see an opportunity that even her children did not see. Her children had only just admired their grandma's creative spirit and were supported by word of mouth but Dominique Deveraux saw an opportunity to take the spotlight that had been lacking in her life.
Julia Child, a world-renowned chef after flipping a potato pancake onto the floor during her TV show said
The only way you learn to flip things is just to flip them. The Personal MBA - Book - Josh Kaufman
Right now, I can't help but see a connection between this statement and Dominique Deveraux. She had to flip a lot of businesses to be able to recognize a winning number. Her fashion designing business had gone on to be loved by the general public and she was so good that Fallon Carrington had to mar things in her path to make sure she was signed in with her fashion company, Fallon Shopping Network. Fallon couldn't stand letting Dominique's talents go to her competition and she did all that she could to make her aunt sign a contract to work with her. And it happened.
It catapulted Dominique Deveraux to where she needed to be and it sent a clear message to anyone willing to learn.
The truth is creating businesses at the beginning you might have all the plans and blueprints but you never really know what's going to happen until you get your hands dirty. It will take a lot of experimentation to finally identify what will produce the intended results. You will be left with no choice but to stay committed to exploring a lot of options.
When you do this, you might fail a lot of times like Dominique Deveraux but the best part about failure is that you will understand a lot of things. And when you do, you can discover what it will take to make it work out. The lessons gained from failures are often the building blocks that help anyone move forward.
Over the course of running an organization, there will be no need to cringe at the thought of making a mistake because you will be making a lot of them as you keep moving forward. But these mistakes will place you on a level that achieves greater things.
It doesn't apply to businesses alone, it applies to one's personal finance too. If you are sitting by the sidelines without getting your hands dirty with making money, saving, and investing, you might never truly learn the deep cores of what will catapult you to the financial position that you desire. But when you learn to flip by flipping like Julia said, there's every tendency that your chances of being a success will increase.
