Freedom of expression is widely recognized as basic human right under United Nations Declaration Of Human Rights. In the digital age internet provides a global platform for free speech but the right of freedom of expression face serious threats in deliverence. Decentralized social media platform doesn't give full authority to users on their account and data that contribute as hurdle to avail right of freedom of expression.
In today's blog I'll analyze the challenges to freedom of expression on decentralized platform. Without further ado lets begin it š :
Censorship: The Silent Suppressor ;
Censorship is a tool used by authorities to restrict freedom of expression and communication. In some countries, dissenting voices are silenced through the use of surveillance technologies. Censorship is applied by website blocking or internet shut down for political purposes in some states. Censorship for public safety measures is justifiable but for political and authoritative purpose is an abuse. In my homeland government practice blocking Twitter and other social media platforms to restrict the cast of PTI leader Imran Khan that's injustice.
Surveillance: Big Brother Is Watching ;

Supervision of users communicating and expressing their opinion online gives details about the individuals including personal habits, scrolling data and their interest. These data could be traded by surveillant authorities against users.
Weaponizing Speech ;
Social media is an important tool to reshape the public opinion. Hate speech on internet mislead and undermine the right of free speech. Hate speech incite conflicts based on religion, gender, race and ethnicity. In my country Pakistan politics based weaponizing on internet by social media teams of political party is misleading youth. There should be some barrier to express opinion and prohibit hate speech.
Safeguarding Freedom of Expression With Web 3.0 :
According to my personal experience and knowledge Web 3.0 are more censorship resistance than centeralized web. It gives full control to users over their data and account. They are free to engage, communicate and share their opinion without barries. While hate speech can be restricted on web 3.0 by community guidelines about hateful content and reporting content.

For effective practice of right of freedom of speech on digital platform decentralized web 3.0 can contribute. Freedom of expression is necessary for check and balance on socio-economic policies and sufferings of general public around the globe.
