My Childhood Experience Reflection - Evolution of Parental Concern

My journey through life with my parents has been shaped by experiences and perceptions thereby influencing my future decisions to being a better person. Reflecting on my childhood days, I can contrast between my past and the present experiences in terms of parental concern for my whereabouts and activities.

My Past Experience:

During my secondary school days, coming home late was often filled with scoldings and lectures from my parents. I understand quite well that the essence of their actions was about my safety, responsibility, and respect for the coming future. More so, staying out late meant worrying them; I can recall when I came back late from my friend’s house, despite the fact that my parents know their family, but they were angry with my irresponsible attitude. Their concern often come from a place of love and protection, sometimes, they make me feel that they are over protecting me but this discipline truly moulded my life to being a better person now.

Similarly, in the past, if I stayed out for a long period of time, whether it was playing with friends or participating in extracurricular activities like attending school lessons, my parents would frequently call my teacher or friend’s parents to check in for my whereabouts. It wasn't out of mistrust but rather a desire to stay informed and involved in my life - they get to know where I am, who I am with, and when I will be returning home.

My Present Experience:

As an adult, life happened to be an opposite, my parents no longer worry over my every move or question my whereabouts. With the mutual understanding and my current level of maturity, there is a newfound trust and confidence in my ability to make responsible decisions. My parents recognize that I am old enough to explore the world on my own with the believe that their discipline instilled in me is intact after accumulative years.

Conclusion:

This evolution of my parental concern shows the natural progression of life. As I grow older, they inevitably seek greater independence, they learn to let go of certain stuff, allowing me to experience and see the world in a my own perspective but with an instilled discipline from them.

Looking back on my past experiences, I want to sincerely appreciate my parents for the love, support, and guidance that they provided to me. The day-to-day scoldings and phone calls shaped me into the person I am today, instilling in me values that continue to guide my decisions and actions.

Conclusively, as I embrace adulthood, I carry along the lessons learned from my past, appreciating the journey that has led me to this point – special thanks to my parents once again.
