pride is a normal human trait, there are times when it can get out of hand and affect relationships with others. I have had experiences with people who were so inflated that any form of discussion with them was nearly impossible. In these instances, I discovered that it is important to simply hold back from engaging with them. I have also found it necessary to communicate with people suffering from excessive pride. More often than not, this form of attitude resolves itself because the situation often demands that they understand and respond appropriately.
I have had experience in my life too, whereby my pride was such that it becomes very hard to express an apology or admit wrongdoing. This prude attitude that I have engaged in over the years surely and quite unfavorable affected my relationship with others, as there brewed a lot of tensions towards clear conversations. Whatever pride I had wascompletely obstructive, and it was painful to see it was affecting my relationships with others.
If you have trouble getting rid of an excessive pride the first step overcoming that is accepting that they might be harmful to your relationships because of your pride. More importantly, it is necessary to be humble and to acknowledge one’s own errors as well as to seek forgiveness, if the situation calls for it. This also includes respecting the opinions of others and being able to lower oneself in order to admit that excessive pride can prevent healthy interactions.
It can also be beneficial to focus on improving one’s ability to empathize with others and view all things from their viewpoint. It becomes possible to forget about personal pride and shift focus instead on tendencies to reach an objective after appreciating another's point of view. It is often said the best way to deal with pride is to communicate and thus engagement and being forthright in conversations would help, even improve some forms of relationships.
From my perspective, I have noticed that, on most occasions, surrendering to one’s pride and focusing on the relationship helps build more rewarding and intimate bonds. One must bear in mind that everyone has pride to some extent, but awareness and control of that aspect promote more constructive and healthy relationships.
To some extent, conquering the problem of pride means that one must be emotionally intelligent, humble, and ready to put other people and their relationships before one’s self. There are many means such as practicing compassion, being truthful, and communicating openly that help suppress the pride in a person and enhance connection with other people
