Lost in the ides of time much of the original pride that was once granted to it, being, as it was, one of the most superb and imposing fortresses, which, strategically located, controlled the roads that converged between the Castilian Plateau and the long mountain ranges of Andalusia, the stronghold of the Order of Calatrava, has become, over the years, another of those romantic settings that attract the attention of tourists and also, from time to time, the visit of some parascientists, who see, in its dark recesses, the ideal habitat in which to try to capture glimpses of that other world, supernatural and terribly marginal, where memories that Tradition insists on calling ghosts are supposed to continue to inhabit.
Based on this, it could be assumed that no one doubts that the ghosts that are supposed to rise every evening continue dragging chains, which, as far as the metaphor is concerned, must not, in the end, be very different from those others, with confusing circumstances, that they already carried in life. But beyond the legends and metaphysical assumptions, what is truly interesting continues to be the old church, which, like a comparative keep, never ceases to surprise with its magnificence, where that comparative and metaphorical Wheel of Fortune, which is Its outstanding rose window elevates it to the category of vulgar, even leaving the humble Romanesque doorway, which serves as its threshold, small.
Perdido en los idus del tiempo buena parte del orgullo original que se le otorgó antaño, siendo, como era, una de las más soberbias e imponentes fortalezas, que, situada estratégicamente, controlaba los caminos que confluían entre la Meseta castellana y las prolongadas sierras de Andalucía, el puesto fuerte de la Orden de Calatrava, se ha convertido, con el paso de los años, en otro de esos románticos escenarios que atraen la atención del turista y también, de vez en cuando, la visita de unos paracientíficos, que ven, en sus oscuros recovecos, el hábitat idóneo donde intentar captar atisbos de ese otro mundo, sobrenatural y terriblemente marginal, donde se supone que continúan habitando unos recuerdos que la Tradición insiste en llamar fantasmas.
En base a ello, podría suponerse, que nadie duda de aquí, los fantasmas que se supone que se levantan cada atardecer, continúan arrastrando unas cadenas, que, en cuanto a la metáfora se refiere, no han de ser, en el fondo, muy diferentes a aquellas otras, de confusas circunstancias, que ya arrastraran en vida. Pero más allá de las leyendas y de las suposiciones metafísicas, lo verdaderamente interesante, continúa siendo la vieja iglesia, que, cual comparativa torre del homenaje, no deja de sorprende por su magnificencia, donde esa comparativa y metafórica Rueda de la Fortuna, que es su sobresaliente rosetón, eleva a la categoría de vulgar, dejando incluso pequeña, a la humilde portada románica, que le sirve de umbral.
