Nowadays, with the sovereign greatness they once had largely lost, there are still places in those comparative Highlands that define one of the most solitary and mysterious territories of Soriana Celtiberia, which, like Castilfrío, not only invite accept the challenge of getting lost in an adventure where time, singularly capricious, also seems to have stopped in the singular labyrinths of mountains and solitary ravines, where now the vulture can no longer enjoy the feasts that once provided it with the joyful bleating of some imposing flocks of sheep, which made these unique spaces a primordial part of that unique vital treasure, which, from medieval times until relatively recent times, were the superb Castilian Mestas.
Reduced, then, to the point of almost disappearance, that genuine livestock wealth, which raised many families to the level of noble greatness that, through breeding and commerce, saw their surnames flourish in the most grandiose sections of the Spanish lordship, towns, such as mentioned Castilfrío, offer, to the surprised traveler, the diminished beauty of a unique set of rural architecture, which, although also deteriorated, still, nevertheless and especially for the lover of History and Tradition, It offers the possibility of admiring and, at the same time, enjoying a genuine and fantastic Cultural Heritage, made up, without a doubt, of many of the varied and picturesque Spanish towns.
En la actualidad, perdida mayoritariamente aquella soberana grandeza que tuvieron en tiempos, todavía persisten lugares, en esas comparativas Highlands o Tierras Altas que definen a uno de los territorios más solitarios y misteriosos de la Celtiberia soriana, que, como Castilfrío, no sólo invitan a aceptar el desafío de perderse en una aventura donde el tiempo, singularmente caprichoso, parece haberse detenido, también, en los singulares laberintos de unos montes y de unas solitarias cañadas, donde ahora el buitre ya no puede solazarse con los festines que antaño le proporcionaban el alegre balido de unos imponentes rebaños ovinos, que hicieron, de estos singulares espacios, una parte primordial de ese singular tesoro vital, que, desde tiempos medievales, hasta tiempos relativamente recientes, fueron las soberbias Mestas castellanas.
Reducida, pues, hasta la casi desaparición esa genuina riqueza ganadera, que hizo elevarse al grado de grandeza nobiliaria a no pocas familias que mediante la cría y el comercio, vieron campear sus apellidos en los más granados apartados del señorío español, pueblos, como el mencionado Castilfrío, ofrecen, al sorprendido viajero, la belleza, venida a menos, de un singular conjunto de arquitectura rural, que, aunque venido a menos también, todavía, no obstante y en especial para el amante de la Historia y de la Tradición, ofrece la posibilidad de admirar y a la vez, de disfrutar de un genuino y fantástico Patrimonio Cultural, constituido, sin duda alguna, por muchos de los variopintos y pintorescos pueblos españoles.
