On the edge of fields that worship wheat and barley, outside the walls of a city, which, according to the romantic perspective of the traveler, continues to see time pass with its media and medieval indifference, the badly wounded temple of Saint John is a poem surreal, which, however, invites reflection and of course, also to speculate with the charismatic metaphor of life. Seen from the amoral perspective that nothing is inexorable, not even time, which, in spite of itself, becomes an Ouroboros eating its own tail, this memorable ruin is also subject to the ineffable enigma of the Sphinx. And yet, in its apparent mortality, lies a lesson that we should all meditate on and always keep in mind.
I want to think that, like him, there will also come that crucial moment when our roof collapses, when one day, in another of our innumerable springs, we observe, with astonishment, that the torrents of our silver snows no longer have the strength, at its roots, to endure the terrible dry land that falls on the earth of our skull. Its cover, which one day knew the elegance of a fresh and spontaneous laugh, has long since lost the memorable garrison of the door hardware, just as we will gradually lose the brightness of our smile, showing the world the cruel reality of that toothless mouth, which once mocked kisses in the shadow of the triumphal arch of passion. With our retinas exhausted, like its small belfry, long ago evicted from the marriage of the bells, we will see life pass like a shadow, searching for the light of a sun that will seem colder and more distant to us every day, while we meditate, crestfallen, in that nave that will not return. We will see, immersed in our quiet vigil, that our experience, which was once also frenzy, no longer matters to anyone. But, like this ruin, here we are and here we continue. And if someone, even in a commiserating way, asks us, we can always tell them: at least, we have lived.
A la vera de unos campos que rinden culto al trigo y la cebada, extramuros de una ciudad, que, según la perspectiva romántica del viajero, continúa viendo el tiempo pasar con su mediática y medieval indiferencia, el malherido templo de San Juan es un poema surrealista, que, no obstante, invita a la reflexión y desde luego, también a especular con la carismática metáfora de la vida. Visto desde la perspectiva amoral de que nada es inexorable, ni siquiera el tiempo, que, a pesar suyo, se convierte en un Ouroboros que se muerde la cola, también esta memorable ruina está sujeta al inefable enigma de la Esfinge. Y, sin embargo, en su aparente mortalidad, subyace una lección sobre la que todos deberíamos meditar y tenerla siempre en cuenta.
Quiero pensar, que, como a él, llegará también ese momento crucial en el que se nos derrumbe el tejado, cuando un día cualquiera, en otra de nuestras innumerables primaveras, observemos, con estupor, que las torrenteras de nuestras nieves plateadas ya no tengan la fuerza, en su raíz, para aguantar el terrible secano que se abate sobre la tierra de nuestro cráneo. Su portada, que un día conoció la elegancia de una risa fresca y espontánea, hace tiempo que perdió la memorable guarnición de los herrajes de la puerta, de igual manera a como nosotros iremos perdiendo paulatinamente el brillo de nuestra sonrisa, mostrando al mundo la cruel realidad de esa boca desdentada, que una vez burlaba besos a la sombra del arco triunfal de la pasión. Agostadas nuestras retinas, como su pequeña espadaña, hace tiempo desahuciada del matrimonio de las campanas, veremos la vida pasar como una sombra, buscando la luz de un sol que cada día nos parecerá más fría y lejana, mientras meditamos, cabizbajos, en esa nave que no ha de tornar. Veremos, sumidos, en nuestra tranquila vigilia, que nuestra experiencia, que una vez fue también frenesí, ya no le importa a nadie. Pero, como esta ruina, aquí estamos y aquí seguimos. Y si alguien, siquiera sea de manera conmiserativa nos pregunta, siempre le podremos decir aquello de: al menos, hemos vivido.
