The puzzle elements and mechanics in the challenges have always been something very entertaining and if you know how to add them can be a very good additional in video games, an example of this could be the Tomb Raider saga which, although not always based on puzzles are an iconic part of the saga. Despite this I think I had never decided to try a video game focused exclusively on solving puzzles and looking for clues or at least I do not remember having completed any game of this style, some time ago I ended up buying The Room when it was on sale and decided to try this title where we will have to solve clues to overcome Puzzle and manage to advance or escape from rooms.
The Room will be based on a first person view where we will not have a room full of objects throughout the room as it could be in other games, instead we will simply have a single object in the middle of the room and this will be the one that will be full of secret mechanisms and Puzzle that we must solve by going through every corner and nook of the object looking for a piece with which we can interact to get some object, tool or move a switch to continue discovering the secrets of the main object of the room.
The whole game is developed with the mouse and with it we can move around the object as well as approach specific points of it and interact with the mechanisms, for this reason its gameplay is really easy and almost instantly you start playing you get used to it. In the vast majority of the time you simply move levers or press buttons, but you can also pick up objects to use in another place, slot or lock, for this you have a sidebar with 5 boxes to store them and you can click on the object to see it more closely, as well as rotate and manipulate them, in some moments it is necessary to do that to continue.
I had never played a video game of this style and thought it would have little or virtually no history and background of what happens, but The Room comes to have a really interesting story with a somewhat mysterious and occult background, the story is shown with a series of notes or diary pages that we can find and that apparently left us the creator of these objects and who went through these same rooms before us. The good thing about these notes is that they are really very short and manage to tell the story in a quick and concise way so you do not lose much time reading them and it can not be boring or exhausting to have to be reading pages and pages of text almost endless, at the same time the story is optional and if you do not want to read any note this will not affect anything when analyzing and solving the puzzle of the object you have in the middle of the room, the notes do not contain any clue or answer to mechanisms and are only to complement the environment of the game.
As is common in this type of video games, we will have an option to enable Hints during the game and these instead of being able to activate them whenever we want are unlocked automatically when we last a long time in a certain Puzzle without progressing, we will have a total of three clues to discover what to do, but one aspect that I really liked with these automatic clues is that they do not become as specific or direct as they can be in other cases, sometimes the clues are literally highlighting with light what we must do but in The Room the clue will be a short phrase that can give you a little guide or a little advice of what you should do but without being something direct, also in some moments the clues can even be so ambiguous that once you get the three clues you are still in the same place and you had already advanced the little that guide you the clues, the clues can become very useful at times but does not get to make you have to think less to complete the game and that is an aspect that I found very well.
The aspects that caught my attention in The Room was first of all its graphics which I found very good and high quality for what you might expect in a simple Puzzle game, it was also quite varied when it came to overcome the Puzzle and the mechanics used where even used patterns of lights that were only seen with a special lens as well as figures and designs in 3D planes that were curious when moving to form the design needed to overcome the Puzzle, A point perhaps somewhat criticized was the game time, although the game is entertaining and the Puzzle can be challenging at times, the game can be completed relatively quickly and even in a single afternoon you can complete it without many problems, when finished you can choose any level to play again. Los Elementos y mecánicas de rompecabezas en los desafíos siempre me han resultado algo muy entretenido y que si saben como agregarlos pueden ser un adicional muy bueno en los videojuegos, un ejemplo de esto podría ser la saga Tomb Raider la cual, aunque no siempre se basa en Puzzles los mismos son una parte icónica de la saga. A pesar de esto creo que nunca había decidido probar algún videojuego enfocado exclusivamente a resolver puzzle y a buscar pistas o al menos no recuerdo haber completado ningún juego de este estilo, hace un tiempo terminé comprando The Room cuando estaba en oferta y decidí probar este título en donde deberemos revolver pistas para superar Puzzle y lograr avanzar o escapar de habitaciones.
The Room se basará en una vista en primera persona en donde no tendremos una sala llena de objetos por toda la habitación como podría ser en otros videojuegos, en su lugar simplemente tendremos un único objeto en todo el medio de la habitación y será este el que estará lleno de mecanismos secretos y Puzzle que deberemos resolver al ir revisando cada esquina y recoveco del objeto buscando alguna pieza con la cual podamos interactuar para logar conseguir algún objeto, herramienta o mover algún interruptor para proseguir descubriendo los secretos del objeto principal de la habitación.
Todo el videojuego se desarrolla con el Mouse y con el podremos tanto movernos alrededor del objeto como acércanos a puntos específicos del mismo y lograr interactuar con los mecanismos, por este motivo su jugabilidad es realmente fácil y prácticamente al instante que comienzas a jugar te acostumbras a la misma. En la gran mayoría de las veces simplemente se mueven palancas o presionan botones, pero también se pueden recoger objetos para usar en otro lugar, ranura o cerradura, por esto se tiene una barra lateral con 5 casillas para almacenarlos y se puede hacer Clic en el objeto para verlo más de cerca, así como rotarlos y manipularlos, en algunos momentos es necesario hacer eso para continuar.
Nunca había jugado a un videojuego de este estilo y pensaba que tendría poca o prácticamente nula historia y trasfondo de lo que sucede, pero The Room llega a tener una historia realmente interesante y con un trasfondo algo misterioso y ocultista, la historia se muestra con una serie de notas o páginas de diario que podemos encontrar y que al parecer nos dejó el creador de estos objetos y que paso por esas mismas habitaciones antes que nosotros. Lo bueno de estas notas es que realmente son muy cortas y logran contar la historia de una manera rápida y concisa por lo cual no pierdes mucho tiempo leyéndolas y tampoco puede resultar aburrido o agotador tener que estar leyendo páginas y páginas casi interminables de texto, al mismo tiempo la historia es opcional y si no quieres leer ninguna nota esto no afectara en nada a la hora de analizar y resolver los puzzle del objeto que tengas en medio de la habitación, las notas no contienen ninguna pista o respuesta a mecanismos y solo son para complementar el ambiente del videojuego.
Como suele ser frecuente en este tipo de videojuegos, tendremos una opción para habilitar Pistas durante el juego y estas en lugar de poder activarlas cuando queramos se van desbloqueando de manera automática cuando duramos mucho tiempo en un determinado Puzzle sin progresar, tendremos un total de tres pistas para poder descubrir lo que se debe hacer, pero un aspecto que me gustó mucho con estas pistas automáticas es que las mismas no llegan a ser tan especificas ni directas como pueden ser en otros casos, algunas veces las pistas son literalmente resaltar con luz lo que debemos hacer pero en The Room la pista será una frase corta que puede darte una pequeña guía o un pequeño consejo de lo que deberías hacer pero sin llegar a ser algo directo, además en algunos momentos las pistas pueden ser incluso tan ambiguas que una vez te dan las tres pistas sigues en el mismo lugar y ya habías avanzado lo poco que te guían las pistas, las pistas pueden llegar a ser muy útiles en algunos momentos pero no llega a hacer que tengas que pensar menos para completar el juego y ese es un aspecto que me pareció muy bien.
Los aspectos que más llamaron mi atención en The Room fue en primer lugar su apartado grafico el cual me resulto muy bueno y de gran calidad para lo que se podría esperar en un simple videojuego de Puzzle, también fue bastante variado a la hora de superar los Puzzle y las mecánicas que se usan en donde incluso se usaban patrones de luces que solo se veían con un lente especial así como figuras y diseños en planos 3D que resultaban curiosos a la hora de mover para formar el diseño necesario para superar el Puzzle, un punto tal vez algo criticable fue el tiempo de juego, aunque el videojuego resulta entretenido y los Puzzle pueden llegar a ser desafiantes en algunos momentos, el videojuego se puede completar relativamente rápido e incluso en una solo tarde puedes completarlo sin muchos inconvenientes, al terminarlo puedes escoger cualquier nivel para jugar otra vez. The Room es un título bastante corto pero que puede llegar a ser muy entretenido y su historia resulta muy llamativa.
