Tutorial: My first bowl lids made with cloth (ENG/ESP)

Hello friends, happy weekend to all, I hope you can rest easy.

I had a project in mind since last year, when I went out with a friend to buy some fabric lids for her bowls, as she had to make several salads, and wanted to present them covered with that style of fabric lid, looking for these lids was not an easy task, we went to several stores of articles and kitchen linen and we did not see them anywhere, until after so many visits to several places we got some, but they were too simple for what my friend was looking for, the fabric did not convince her at all, even so she ended up buying them, because she did not want to use aluminum foil to cover her cups and bowls, she wanted something different.

I saw them and I had the idea of making some for myself; however, I did not say anything to my friend, because at that time I was not ready, and with clear ideas to make them, and everything has its technique, even if it is very simple.

I think these lids are beautiful and very useful, besides, covering the cups with these lids makes a difference in the kitchen, and protects the food from being contaminated.

Today I feel very happy, because I have managed to make my fabric lids, in a very simple way, so without further ado, I invite you to join me with this initiative.

Tenía un proyecto en mente desde el año pasado, cuando salí con una amiga a comprar unas tapas de tela para sus bowls, ya que tenía que hacer varias ensaladas, y quería presentarlas tapadas con ese estilo de tapa de tela, buscarlas estas tapas no fue tarea fácil, nos fuimos a varias tiendas de artículos y lencería de cocina y no las veíamos por ningún lugar, hasta que después de tantas visitas por varios sitios conseguimos unas, pero demasiado sencillas para lo que mi amiga estaba buscando, la tela no la convenció del todo, aun así termino comprándolas, ya que no quería usar papel aluminio para tapar sus tazas y bowls, quería algo diferente.

Las vi y me surgió la idea de hacer unas para mí; sin embargo, no le dije nada a mi amiga, porque para ese momento no estaba preparada, y con las ideas claras para hacerlas, y todo tiene su técnica, aunque sea muy sencillo.

Me parecen unas tapas lindas y muy útiles, además tapar las tazas con estas tapas, refleja una diferencia en la cocina, y cuidan los alimentos de ser contaminados.

Hoy me siento muy feliz, debido a que he logrado hacer mis tapas de tela, de una forma muy sencilla, así que sin más preámbulos, los invito a que me acompañen con esta iniciativa.

To make these lids the first thing we are going to do is to take the measurements of the circumference of the lid, then we take this measurement and we are going to draw it on a paper to make the mold, or simply, we place the cup directly on the fabric and with a pencil we mark.

Only if we mark the exact circumference and cut, it will not fit well, since we must leave a margin of 5 cm additional to the circumference of each cup, to sew and to place the elastic.

After we have cut the circumferences plus the 5 cm, we are going to measure the elastic, which would be half of the circumference.

Another stitch for each lid is 2 pieces of circular fabric, they can be the same or different fabrics, such as printed, striped, unicolor, among others.

Para hacer estas tapas lo primero que vamos a hacer es tomar las medidas de la circunferencia de la tapa, luego llevamos esta medida y la vamos a dibujar sobre un papel para hacer el molde, o sencillamente, colocamos la taza directamente sobre la tela y con un lápiz marcamos.

Solo que si marcamos, la circunferencia exacta y cortamos, no quedará bien, ya que se debe dejar un margen de 5 cm adicionales a la circunferencia de cada taza, para coser y para colocar el elástico.

Después que hayamos cortado las circunferencias más los 5 cm, vamos a medir el elástico, que sería la mitad de la circunferencia.

Otro punto por cada tapa, son 2 piezas de tela circular, pueden ser, telas iguales o diferentes, como por ejemplo estampadas, rayas, unicolor, entre otras.

Then we will sew the pieces together, but first we will pin them right sides together, leaving a seam allowance of 1 cm, and we will also leave an opening of 3 to 5 cm for turning.

Después vamos a coser las piezas, pero antes vamos a unirlas con alfileres, derecho con derecho, y vamos a dejar un margen de costura de 1 cm, también vamos a dejar una abertura de 3 a 5 cm para voltear.

We flip our cover, and we will sew 2 or 3 cm, inwards, to place the elastic, we sew the elastic by hand or with the sewing machine.

Volteamos nuestra tapa, y vamos a coser 2 o 3 cm, hacia dentro, para colocar el elástico, cosemos el elástico a mano o con la máquina de coser.

Then we are going to sew the entire edge to close the opening we left for the elastic, and in this way we will make the rest of the lids we want to make, to have a different accessory in the kitchen.

Another advantage of these lids is that they can be stored in any drawer, or any small space in the kitchen, folded or joined from largest to smallest.

Another aspect is that these lids should not be used to cover hot food, so as not to damage them.
They are useful to cover kitchen pots, sewing, bath, clothes, glasses, plates, it is really great to make them, they are very useful.

Después vamos a coser toda la orilla para cerrar la abertura que dejamos para el elástico, y de esta forma haremos el resto de las tapas que deseemos hacer, para tener un accesorio diferente en la cocina.

Otra de las ventajas de estas tapas es que se pueden guardar en cualquier gaveta, o cualquier espacio pequeño de la cocina, dobladas o unidas de mayor a menor.

Otro aspecto es, que no se deben utilizar estas tapas, para cubrir alimentos calientes, para no dañarlas.
Son útiles para tapar potes de cocina, costura, de baño, de ropa, vasos, platos, realmente es magnífico hacerlas, son de mucho provecho.
