After leaving our terrifying by night, but charming by day, mountain lodge, we continue our journey north along the Carretera Austral in Chile. The beautiful weather was still with us, so we set off early to see how close we could get that day. This trip had nothing much planned so everything was flexible and we could stop wherever we wanted. One of those stops was in Cochrane, a little to get to know the place and a little to buy supplies ❤️.
Después de dejar nuestro terrorífico por la noche pero encantador por el día, alojamiento en las montañas, continuamos nuestro camino en dirección norte por la Carretera Austral en Chile. El clima hermoso nos seguía acompañando, así que partimos temprano para ver hasta donde podíamos acercarnos ese día. Este viaje no tenía nada muy planificado así que todo era flexible y podíamos parar en donde quisiéramos. Una de esas paradas fue en Cochrane, un poco para conocer el lugar y otro poco para comprar provisiones ❤️.
We had got off the four-night boat the day before and had no more provisions to continue the journey, so we needed to find a market. On our way in search of that, we followed the road which, although gravel, was in good condition and allowed us to go almost as fast as the tarmac roads. On the way, we could see a lot of beautiful landscapes and that's what I liked, that even the intermediate routes were worthwhile.
Habíamos bajado del barco de cuatro noches el día anterior y no teníamos más provisiones para continuar el viaje, así que necesitábamos encontrar un mercado. Durante nuestro camino en busca de eso, continuamos la carretera que, a pesar de ser de ripio, estaba en buen estado y nos permitía ir casi tan rápido como las rutas asfaltadas. En el camino, pudimos ver un montón de paisajes hermosos y eso es lo que me gustaba, que hasta los recorridos intermedios valían la pena.
This stretch from the campsite to the largest civilisation we crossed took us about 60 km. This was Cochrane, another of the famous stops on the Route 7 ride. This town looked very quiet: there were almost no people on the streets and everything was very clean, neat and tidy. We took the opportunity to get off for a while to stretch our legs and look for a good place to do our shopping.
Este tramo desde el camping hasta la civilización más grande que cruzamos nos tomó unos 60 km. Se trataba de Cochrane, otra de las paradas famosas dentro del paseo en la Ruta 7. Este pueblo se veía muy tranquilo: casi que no había gente en la calle y todo estaba muy limpio, prolijo y ordenado. Aprovechamos para bajar un poco a estirar las piernas buscando un buen lugar para hacer nuestras compras.
I couldn't stop being amazed at how cheap everything was in Chile. In Argentina we have very inflated prices and that bothered me a bit, although in that context, it suited me that everything was cheaper there. When we bought everything we needed, it was still early in the morning and although we were ready to leave, we decided to visit the place a bit more. We couldn't leave it without seeing nothing but the square and the market, we had to get other good postcards.
Yo no podía parar de sorprenderme de lo económico que era todo en Chile. En Argentina tenemos los precios muy inflados y eso me molestó un poco, aunque en ese contexto, me convenía que todo fuese más barato ahí. Cuando compramos todo lo necesario, todavía era temprano y aunque estábamos en condiciones de irnos, decidimos recorrer un poco más el lugar. No podíamos irnos sin ver nada más que la plaza y el mercado, teníamos que conseguir otras buenas postales.
Navigating on the map, we find the famous and infallible Cerro de la Cruz. No town can miss having a hill with a cross, and Cochrane was no exception. But unlike the others I have visited before, this place can be reached by car and there is a beautiful viewpoint of the town. From this high point you can see that Cochrane has a privileged location between the mountains and a very beautiful aesthetic.
Navegando en el mapa, encontramos el famoso e infaltable Cerro de la Cruz. Ningún pueblo puede perderse de tener un cerro con una cruz, y Cochrane no era la excepción. Pero a diferencia de los otros que he visitado antes, a este lugar se puede llegar en auto y el él hay un hermoso mirador del pueblo. Desde este punto alto se puede ver que Cochrane tiene una ubicación privilegiada entre las montañas y una estética muy hermosa.
We stayed for a while at the viewpoint, had a bite to eat and rested before continuing on our way. We had planned to spend the night there so I took it upon myself to look for accommodation in the area, but it was still early in the morning and we could use the day to drive a bit more. As everything was so free in our itinerary we could decide what to do on the spot, and it was this improvisation that made the whole trip even more fun ❤️.
Nos quedamos un buen rato en el mirador, comiendo algo y descansando antes de continuar el camino. Habíamos pensado en pasar la noche ahí por lo que me encargué de buscar alojamiento en la zona, pero todavía era temprano y podríamos aprovechar el día como para manejar un poco más. Al estar todo tan libre en nuestro itinerario podíamos decidir qué hacer en el momento, y esa improvisación fue la que hizo aún más divertido todo el viaje ❤️.
