Splinterlands DHF Proposal: My Choice and My Considerations!
Did Hive give more value to Splinterlands or did Splinterlands give more value to Hive?
I discovered Hive in March 2019 and it was love at first sight because I love decentralization and immediately saw potential in Hive and my publishing and interaction activity on Hive clearly shows how much I like Hive.
I discovered Splinterlands in September 2019 and it was love at first sight because from the very first battle I enjoyed playing.
Splinterlands is more than 6 years old and even though there are other games on Hive and even though there are games in development with potential on Hive, Splinterlands is in my opinion the most fun, complete and structured game present on Hive even though there are many aspects to improve.
Two days ago @splinterlands published for the first time since its inception its DHF Proposal through which it asked the Hive community for 500K HBD support in a 180-day time frame.

The proposal is in Upcoming stage and will be active from July 22, 2024 until January 18, 2025.
The proposal will receive 2777 HBD per day for 180 days but only if it passes a total vote higher than the total vote received by the Return Proposal.
After reading posts and comments on this proposal, I decided to write this post to share my choice regarding the DHF proposal, my personal opinions and my personal thoughts.
First of all, I want to express my thoughts on the discussion that opened up after @yabapmatt wrote:
I have no interest in moving the game to another chain, as I truly believe that Hive is the best chain to support our mission, but if we're unable to raise the capital we need from the DHF and/or other investors who support us staying here, then it is possible we could be forced to do so at some point in the future.
Among the many comments I have read around on Hive there are those who have taken the opportunity to say that it is almost Hive's fault that Splinterlands is in this situation and that the future of Splinterlands would be better on other chains.
In my opinion whoever thinks that Splinterlands would be more successful on other chains is just a gamer and does not know Hive and its many utilities at all!
But most importantly Splinterlands is not a new game and cannot be compared with new games developed on other chains but should be compared with games created on other chains that are about the same years old as Splinterlands.
If you look at the graphs of DEC tokens (native token of Splinterlands on Hive) and AXS tokens (native token of Axie Infinity on Ethereum) you will notice an almost similar graph considering the forms created and the time in which the changes in value occurred.
The two graphs show how the argument of those who say that it is Hive that is the problem for Splinterlands expresses an opinion and not demonstrable fact.
The truth is that all play-to-earn games with more than one year of life have been suffering after the end of the bull run that began in 2021.
Splinterlands has two great merits in my opinion:
- it created a strategy game based on NFT great and fun.
- had a great idea and great timing when he created the SPS token on BSC in late July 2021, which introduced Splinterlands to many new players and also brought many new users to Hive.
It is no coincidence that the HIVE token reached its ATH in December 2021 and much of the merit for this value can be attributed to Splinterlands and its success in my opinion.
But to say that Splinterlands has given so much to Hive without also considering what Hive has given to Splinterlands I do not agree with that and I disagree on that point because in my opinion:
Splinterlands gave so much value to Hive because it brought innovation (tools), it burned so many HIVEs, it created so many new accounts but most importantly it gave Hive my favorite blockchain game and also one of the most beautiful and fun games in the whole blockchain landscape.
For these reasons the whole Hive community has to say thank you to Splinterlands but Hive also played an important role in the success that Splinterlands has had.
Splinterlands by choosing Hive has chosen a blockchain that is useful, fast, technologically better than many other blockchain projects, with transaction costs = 0 and therefore ideal on the player side.
To transfer at 0 cost a DEC token or NFT of Splinterlands on Hive requires very few RC=have fractions of HP (HIVE staked) that always remain the player's and thus are not a cost (they are not fees)!
To transfer an NFT on almost all the blockchains that were there when Splinterlands was born it was necessary to spend fees for each transaction and also wait a long time to complete the transfer.
Splinterlands was born on Hive and had the support and enthusiasm of the beautiful Hive community and for that it will always have to thank Hive!
To decide who gave more to one or the other between Splinterlands and Hive we would need to know in detail:
- how many new accounts Splinterlands created and how many of those accounts used Hive and how much HP they maintained
- how much profit the people who worked for Splinterlands made.
I do not know this data and therefore cannot give an analytical assessment but I can give my opinion as a simple Hive lover and a simple Splinterlands lover.
Hive and Splinterlands are for me a winning combination.
Splinterlands has shown that Hive to be successful must have useful applications and/or fun games and therefore must be able to attract developers and new projects.
In my opinion to attract developers and projects Hive needs to implement smart contracts (fortunately they are in development).
In my opinion to attract new players Splinterlands must return to focus on the game and players, a focus it completely lost in the midst of the bull run when it prioritized number of transactions (tolerated bots), sold millions of Chaos Legion packs, increased the price of card packs, and started neglecting the playful needs of its strong and solid base composed of the Hivers/players who have always loved playing on Splinterlands and kept their assets without selling them.
In the DHF Proposal @yabapmatt described the future goals that Splinterlands wants to achieve and they are goals that I like.
But I also think the goals:
- improving our onboarding experience to increase the conversion rate from new players signing up through spending money in the ecosystem
- launch a major marketing campaign - hopefully coinciding with the beginning of the next major bull market in crypto.
- hiring a top web3 marketer and running a number of marketing and promotional campaigns to bring a significant amount of attention and active, paying users to the Hive blockchain through Splinterlands
conceptually and logically clash with the presence and tolerance of bots in the Wild Format|
The bots and bot-farms in the Wild Format continue to displease and drive the real player base away from Splinterlands and the Wild Pass is a bad solution in my opinion!
The pillars of any web 2.0 or web 3.0 game are the real, active players who love to play and enjoy spending their time playing.
How can you improve the gaming experience of a new player who enters Splinterlands today, buys Chaos Legion cards to play in the Modern Format with real players like him, and then finds out that when the new set of cards will be released he will be forced to play and use his Chaos Legion cards against bots and bot-farms and will also have to pay a seasonal entry fee (Wild Pass) to play against bots and bot-farms?
But only I see the absurdity and counterproductivity of continuing to tolerate bots?
But only I see a real short-circuit between intent and action?
I really appreciated the part in the DHF Proposal where @yabapmatt admits that there were mistakes because no one is perfect and admitting to making mistakes is always a show of strength.
In my opinion the biggest and most counterproductive mistake Splinterlands made was during the bull run when it chose to tolerate bots turning the most beautiful play to earn in existence at that time into a bot-to-earn
@yabapmatt I thank you for creating Splinterlands which is my favorite blockchain game and for that reason I chose to immediately and without perplexity support the DHF proposal but...
...if Splinterlands does not eliminate bots also from Wild Format no DHF and no other blockchain will be able to save Splinterlands in the medium-long term because bots kill the fun of any real player in any game...
If in the DHF proposal there was also the goal of eliminating bots in the very short term I am convinced that the proposal would have already passed the necessary amount of votes but this is my personal opinion.
As a Splinterlands lover and player and as a Hive lover I hope and wish the best for the future of Splinterlands and Hive together!

Splinterlands DHF Proposal: La mia scelta e le mie considerazioni!
Ho scoperto Hive nel marzo del 2019 ed è stato amore a prima vista perchè amo la decentralizzazione e ho visto subito del potenziale in Hive e la mia attività di pubblicazione e di interazione su Hive mostra chiaramente quanto Hive mi piace.
Ho scoperto Splinterlands nel settembre del 2019 ed è stato amore a prima vista perchè fin dalla prima battaglia mi sono divertito a giocare.
Splinterlands ha più di 6 anni di vita e anche se su Hive ci sono altri giochi e anche se su Hive ci sono giochi in fase di sviluppo con potenziale, Splinterlands è secondo me il gioco più divertente, completo e strutturato presente su Hive anche se ci sono molti aspetti da migliorare.
Due giorni fa @splinterlands ha pubblicato per la prima volta da quando è nato la sua DHF Proposal tramite la quale ha chiesto alla comunità di Hive un supporto di 500K HBD in un intervallo di tempo di 180 giorni.

La proposta è in fase di Upcoming e sarà attiva a partire dal 22 luglio 2024 fino al 18 gennaio 2025.
La proposta riceverà 2777 HBD al giorno per 180 giorni ma solo se supererà un voto totale superiore al voto totale ricevuto dalla Return Proposal.
Dopo aver letto posts e commenti su questa proposta ho deciso di scrivere questo post per condividere la mia scelta relativa alla DHF proposal, le mie personali opinioni e le mie personali considerazioni.
Innanzitutto voglio esprimere il mio pensiero sulla discussione che si è aperta dopo che @yabapmatt ha scritto:

Tra i tanti commenti che ho letto in giro su Hive c'è chi ha colto l'occasione per affermare che è quasi colpa di Hive se Splinterlands si trova in questa situazione e che il futuro di Splinterlands sarebbe migliore su altre chains.
Secondo me chi pensa che Splinterlands avrebbe più successo su altre chain è solo un giocatore e non conosce minimamente Hive e le sue tante utilità!
Ma soprattutto Splinterlands non è un nuovo gioco e non può essere confrontato con i nuovi giochi sviluppati su altre chains ma andrebbe confrontato con giochi creati su altre chain che hanno più o meno gli stessi anni di vita di Splinterlands.
Se guardi i grafici dei token DEC (token nativo di Splinterlands su Hive) e dei token AXS (token nativo di Axie Infinity su Ethereum) noterai un grafico quasi simile considerando le forme create e il tempo in cui sono avvenute le variazioni di valore.
I due grafici mostrano come l'affermazione di chi dice che è Hive il problema di Splinterlands esprime un'opinione e non un dato di fatto dimostrabile.
La verità è che tutti i giochi play to earn con più di un anno di vita sono andati in sofferenza dopo la fine della bull run iniziata nel 2021.
Splinterlands ha due grandi meriti secondo me:
- ha creato un gioco di strategia basato su NFT bello e divertente
- ha avuto una grande idea e un grande tempismo quando a fine luglio 2021 ha creato il token SPS su BSC che ha fatto conoscere Splinterlands a tanti nuovi giocatori e ha portato anche tanti nuovi utenti su Hive.
Non a caso il token HIVE ha raggiunto il suo ATH nel mese di dicembre 2021 e gran parte del merito di questo valore è da attribuire a Splinterlands e al suo successo secondo me.
Ma affermare che Splinterlands ha dato tanto ad Hive senza considerare anche quello che Hive ha dato a Splinterlands non lo condivido e su questo punto non sono d'accordo perchè secondo me:
Splinterlands ha dato tanto valore ad Hive perchè ha portato innovazione (tools), ha bruciato tanti HIVE, ha creato tanti nuovi accounts ma soprattutto ha dato ad Hive il mio gioco blockchain preferito e anche uno dei giochi più belli e divertenti di tutto il panorama blockchain.
Per questi motivi tutta la comunità di Hive deve dire grazie a Splinterlands ma anche Hive ha giocato un ruolo importante per il successo che ha avuto Splinterlands.
Splinterlands scegliendo Hive ha scelto una blockchain utile, veloce, tecnologicamente migliore di tanti altri progetti blockchain, con costi delle transazioni = 0 e quindi ideale lato giocatore.
Per trasferire a costo 0 un token DEC o un NFT di Splinterlands su Hive servono pochissimi RC=avere frazioni di HP (HIVE staked) che rimangono sempre del giocatore e quindi non sono un costo (non sono fees)!
Per trasferire un NFT su quasi tutte le blockchains che c'erano quando Splinterlands è nato era necessario spendere fees per ogni transazione e aspettare anche molto tempo per completare il trasferimento.
Splinterlands è nato su Hive e ha avuto il supporto e l'entusiasmo della bella comunità di Hive e per questo motivo dovrà sempre ringraziare Hive!
Per decidere chi ha dato di più all'uno a all'altro tra Splinterlands e Hive bisognerebbe conoscere in dettaglio:
- quanti nuovi account ha creato Splinterlands e quanti di questi account hanno utilizzato Hive e quanto HP hanno mantenuto
- quanto profitto ha fatto chi ha lavorato per Splinterlands
Io non conosco questi dati e quindi non posso esprimere una valutazione analitica ma posso esprimere la mia opinione da semplice Hive lover e da semplice Splinterlands lover.
Hive e Splinterlands sono per me un'accoppiata vincente.
Splinterlands ha dimostrato che Hive per avere successo deve avere applicazioni utili e/o giochi divertenti e quindi deve essere in grado di attirare sviluppatori e nuovi progetti.
Secondo me per attirare sviluppatori e progetti Hive deve implementare gli smart contracts (fortunatamente sono in fase di sviluppo).
Secondo me per attirare nuovi giocatori Splinterlands deve ritornare a focalizzarsi sul gioco e sui giocatori, focus che ha completamente perso in piena bull run quando ha dato priorità al numero di transazioni (ha tollerato i bots), ha venduto milioni di pacchi Chaos Legion, ha aumentato il prezzo dei pacchi di carte e ha iniziato a trascurare le esigenze ludiche della sua base forte e solida composta dagli Hivers/giocatori che hanno sempre amato giocare su Splinterlands e che hanno mantenuto i loro assets senza venderli.
Nella DHF Proposal @yabapmatt ha descritto gli obiettivi futuri che Splinterlands vuole raggiungere e sono obiettivi che mi piacciono.
Ma credo anche che gli obiettivi:

concettualmente e logicamente si scontrano con la presenza e la tolleranza dei bots nel Wild Format|
I bots e le bot-farms nel Wild Format continuano a scontentare e ad allontanare la base di giocatori reali da Splinterlands e il Wild Pass è una soluzione sbagliata secondo me!
I pilastri di ogni gioco web 2.0 o web 3.0 sono i giocatori reali e attivi che amano giocare e che amano spendere il loro tempo giocando.
Come si può migliorare l'esperienza di gioco di un nuovo giocatore che entra oggi su Splinterlands, acquista le carte Chaos Legion per giocare nel Modern Format con giocatori reali come lui e poi scopre che quando sarà rilasciato il nuovo set di carte sarà costretto a giocare e utilizzare le sue carte Chaos Legion contro bots e bot-farms e dovrà anche pagare una fee di ingresso stagionale (Wild Pass) per giocare contro bots e bot-farms?
Ma solo io vedo l'assurdità e la controproducenza di continuare a tollerare i bots?
Ma solo io vedo un vero e proprio corto-circuito tra intenti e azioni?
Ho molto apprezzato la parte nella DHF Proposal in cui @yabapmatt ammette che ci sono stati errori perchè nessuno è perfetto ed ammettere di aver fatto degli errori è sempre una dimostrazione di forza.
Secondo me l'errore più grande e controproducente che ha fatto Splinterlands è stato durante la bull run quando ha scelto di tollerare i bots trasformando il più bel play to earn esistente a quel tempo in un bot-to-earn
@yabapmatt ti ringrazio di aver creato Splinterlands che è il mio gioco blockchain preferito e per questo motivo ho scelto di supportare immediatamente e senza perplessità la DHF proposal ma...
...se Splinterlands non eliminerà i bots anche dal Wild Format nessuna DHF e nessuna altra blockchain potrà salvare Splinterlands perchè i bots uccidono il divertimento di qualsiasi giocatore reale in qualsiasi gioco...
Se nella DHF proposal ci fosse stato anche l'obiettivo di eliminare i bots nel brevissimo periodo sono convinto che la proposta avrebbe già superato il quantitativo di voti necessario ma questa è la mia personale opinione.
Come giocatore appassionato di Splinterlands e come appassionato di Hive spero e auguro il meglio per il futuro di Splinterlands e Hive insieme!
