Just about 6 hours ago, my mom called to say that our newly adopted cat was lost. We recently adopted him from my dad’s cousin. When he first came home, he looked pretty tame and didn’t have that much appetite. But a few after it got to our home, he started eating more and getting fatter. We took him to vets for general check up and even getting his first bath. January is almost our third month having him. We decided to send him for castration and vaccination but because my mom was spending the new year with me, we halted the plan until she's back again. Another thing is , I have only seen this cat from a video call as I have yet to go back home.
Then, my mom texted me today that the cat was lost and she got exhausted looking around the whole neighborhood. Our neighbors noticed him but they were shooing him away and tried to get him. Shiro ressisted and one of our neighbors reported that he was going to the market. Well, since our house is close to the market, we were afraid that somebody might steal .He’s not just some “kucing kampung” , or a regular cat. So my mom said in the call that it’s okay to let him go and if it meant to be ours then it will be back. Nobody is at home these days because Ray is already working and same with my other cousin.
Anyway, just about an hour ago, I got a text message from my mom. I was still quite sleepy because I had not slept the whole day. I was shocked to see the pictures. My mom’s hand was covered in bites and it’s not like bites that I’ve ever seen. It’s from a borderline monstrous cat. She then called me and even now I can’t still digest what she told me.
Basically our neighbor found Shiro and then some of the people in our neighborhood tried to get him. It seemed like he was traumatized and the moment my mom was holding him to go back home, she got bitten and scratched and was almost passing out. She was rushed to the hospital and my cousin Reno was with him.
My mom said she was surrounded by a few doctors and nurses who gave her so many shots in each of the bites. Doctor said that some of the bites were deep and it got to her muscle vein. They even took out the blood from each of the bites. I can only imagine how messy it was and terrifying for her. Now, the cat is at home but we are still left unsure whether to keep him or find a new home for him because many relatives told us to just give it for adoption. Part of me did not want it because I have not seen it and my mom is already attached to him.
But yeah, the lesson would be, if you ever get bitten by a cat, go to the hospital right away as it can be a serious and life threatening situation. I am still shocked and I told my mom to do a few check-ups after this despite the doctors not mentioning that she should be back. Do you think we should give the cat away ?
