What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.
More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

From Sioux City, IA we took Interstate 29 north into Dakota Dunes, SD. I-29 was virtually straight until we reached the intersection with I-90 north of Sioux Falls. I-90 would take us directly to Sturgis. Our motley crew grew.
ποΈ Motley
just means "varied"; in today's cultural environment, we would be hearing the word "diverse" or its variant "diversified". While the context of "diverse" has been rendered limited thanks to relentless corporate media repetition, "motley" retains the fullness of its meaning. In this case, it implies differences in appearance, background, age, and anything else of importance to the situation.
ποΈ MΓΆtley CrΓΌe was one of the leading heavy metal/hair metal/hard rock bands of the 1980s. Some of the band members included Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, and Nikki Sixx (who himself had a near-death experience). The dots over the vowels are present for cosmetic purposes; in this case, their true linguistic function doesn't apply.

Usually South Dakota averages 3 tornadoes in August. We hit one of those 3 days. We found ourselves trying to outrun a tornado. We numbered over 24. We made it into an open garage. When we left, only this garage survived intact.
ποΈ While the tornado was traveling along a different path, it was still powerful enough to affect everything miles away. As mysteriously as they appear, they vanish. But during the time they touch the ground (or water) they wreak unimaginable damage.
ποΈ Periodically we hear about tiny patches of untouched area left behind within large swaths of devastation. Many people attribute this to sheer luck. Other people attribute this to divine intervention. I present, you decide....

We were one day out from Sturgis. We found space where we could have a meal, whatever people had with them or bought. We all gave thanks to The Lord for keeping us safe and for bringing us together. Then we ate and were merry.
ποΈ Regardless of how powerful we are in our companies, organizations, and hometowns, we pale in significance to the power of nature. It's a humbling experience. After experiencing a tornado first-hand, it makes sense that people want to give thanks for being spared.

After we refueled, we rode until
we reached STURGIS. With at least
half a million riders attending,
I needed to find Harry Hoqualogue.
"Harry who?" I was asked.
Then I explained.
"Oh yeah. You'll find
The Mongols over there."
ποΈ After discovering that there is more than one place named Sturgis, I wanted to distinguish the top choice from the rest. Until I began writing the daily zapfic serial GHAWG, the only Sturgis I knew about was the one in South Dakota which had the annual motorcycle rally. I'm guessing this is true of most people who have ever encountered the name.

Given the Mongols' reputation, I had no idea what to expect. Nor did I realize how many Mongols there were. We weren't worried. When I asked "Where can I find Harry Hockaloogie?" everyone laughed. Everyone, except Harry himself.
ποΈ The Mongols are an outlaw motorcycle club founded in California in 1969. They are an outlaw motorcycle club because they are not members of the American Motorcycle Association. Most people think they are an outlaw motorcycle club because of criminal activities involving them over the years; while true according to the FBI, that's not why they are called an outlaw motorcycle club.

"The name is Hoqualogue, mack," he said
after he floored me with a hard jab to
the face.
"No disrespect intended," I said from
the ground as I caught my breath.
"What do you want?"
"Special Delivery from Manny Rey."
"Who??"
ποΈ Harry Hoqualogue is what's known, to be polite, as a tough customer-- and in more ways than one. Now we get to find out why he and Manny Rey had a falling out.
1οΈβ£1οΈβ£9οΈβ£ 2023-July-05 00:08:45
"Manny Rey's the name of the man who handed me
this sealed envelope to give you," I began
to explain. "We met east of Sandusky, Ohio;
he said he wasn't going to Sturgis."
"Of course he wasn't going to Sturgis.
I killed him."
ποΈ
That was exactly what occurred to me when I wrote that zapfic entry. Whatever reaction people present displayed, in their minds this was the thought-- most especially for David Guardia, who had other ideas about Harry based on what Manny Rey had told him.

Story Arc So Far
At long last, David Guardia reaches STURGIS. His actual experience is nothing like what he had imagined so many times over the years, and it's not how he envisioned it when he began his ride from Bayonne, New Jersey, US. He finally meets Harry Hoqualogue and hands him Manny Rey's message, only Harry doesn't want it. Cue the Dramatic Squirrel.
