What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.
More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

Rhonda & I drew close to each other, as 2 people strongly attracted to each other. This would have been a moment for either sappy love songs or porn groove. Instead, we hugged each other for dear life before we said good night. |
---|
ποΈ If it wasn't obvious to either David Guardia or Rhonda Bella before this moment, it became crystal clear that they are both attracted and drawn to each other. It may have been obvious to everyone else, too, but they needed to discover this for themselves. |

"Get your dizziness pills ready," said Harry, "Today's ride will feature nothing but curves as far as the eye can see." Rhonda & I looked at each other, and we noticed twinkles in our eyes. Roads like these are why riders ride. |
---|
ποΈ The stretch of road they were riding featured hairpin turns and other sorts of turns for essentially most of the ride they had that day. Although it may get disorienting after a while-- 30-60 miles of turns-- even worse is straight-line driving/riding where the road's center line gets burned into the corneas and retinas, thus causing drivers/riders to get tired and sleepy. This is when many accidents happen without drugs or medications. |

About 38 miles into the ride US-101, near Leggett, branched into California Road 1-- famed Pacific Coast Highway. Even then it would be about 22 miles before we reached the Pacific Coast. We camped at Coast Highway Vista Point. |
---|
ποΈ famed should actually say the famed , but the thread went over the 240-character limit used at LeoThreads.ποΈ Pacific Coast Highway is one of the iconic roads of the United States. Another is Old Route 66, which exists these days only on maps stored in archives and on web sites devoted to this road. Over time, Route 66 was replaced by the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System used today. Where the Interstate System didn't repalce Route 66, various state systems upgraded their own roads. Starting in January 2024 GHAWG takes place on (what I call) Old Route 66 as Our Heroes make their way to their respective homes. |

ONLINE -- Guest Geraldo Rivera commented on a viral video showing a man and a bear. "Hold on; I know him!" "Tell us about him." "He almost died in an explosion, and in 10 days he was fully healed." "Say whaat? No way!!" |
---|
ποΈ This is a bonus zapfic entry taking place in-sequence. Journalist Geraldo Rivera thought he was done with David Guardia, but it seems he can't escape the rider from Bayonne, New Jersey, US. |

After breakfast, we all picked up some food to have for lunch later. Hank & Frank encountered a small family they could tell was in need of food. Lindsay saw Hank & Frank pray with the family before they donated their lunches. |
---|
ποΈ It's one thing for Lindsay Etxeberria to hear talk about topics related to faith from acknowledged faith leaders (which David Guardia is to her by default). It's another thing to see faith put into action by those who practice it. The amazing thing is that this moment occured organically; it wasn't manufactured or orchestrated. Life happened, and people near her handled it accordingly. |

"You guys did a good deed this morning," Lindsay said to Hank & Frank. "Thanks," said Hank. "We were in a position to help, so we did," began Frank. "One day, it could be any of us. Church and state take too long, so we acted." |
---|
ποΈ Lindsay Etxeberria was expecting the Brothers Marchenko, Hank & Frank, to say something about putting their faith into practice. Instead, she heard the Brothers Marchenko talk political philosophy, a topic to which she devoted much of her adulthood. At this moment, Hank & Frank were speaking a language more familiar to Lindsay. |

Until then, Lindsay was used to hearing David's crew speak in terms of faith. This was the first time she heard anyone say anything remotely political. Not only are Hank & Frank Christians, but they are also anarcho-capitalists. |
---|
ποΈ Contrary to what people may think because of the prefix anarcho- -- it just means "no political government" or "without political government"-- Hank & Frank are total believers in free markets. Where they differ from many people is their vehement dislike for government involvement of any sort in any economic system or in any market. If anything, they believe in peer-to-peer trade. While it may seem that Lindsay would have a problem with her polar opposites (which the twins would be), Hank & Frank may be the kind of people to get Lindsay on board with their point of view. |

"As kids we believed the usual stuff," began Hank. "As we grew older, we saw it wasn't working for us. After high school, we went into business for ourselves." "And I went to college," said Lindsay. "The fork in the road." |
---|
ποΈ Most people who attend college do so because it's what they've been taught they had to do because "that was what people did." As recently as the 1990s, attending college after high school was still a good option for many people. These days? At least in many European nations and much of the Americas, college has proven to be a lousy investment of not only money but also time. It was the college system as it is these days which produced pre-GHAWG Lindsay Etxeberria. ποΈ It was weeks ago when I wrote this zapfic entry, so today I wasn't sure who said the final line. This is what I think happened.... It could have been either Hank or Frank who said "The fork in the road." It could also have been Lindsay herself who said that. Given that the sentence appeared on a line by itself, I will say that Hank said it. Had Frank said it, I would have had to indicate that detail, only I hit the 240-character thread limit. So it had to be Hank who said that line. |

Story Arc So Far
David Guardia and Rhonda Bella confirm for themselves how attracted they are to each other. Our Heroes reach the Pacific Coast Highway (the PCH), which they will take as far south as Los Angeles before they ride to Riverside. Lindsay Etxeberria discovers what kind of people the Brothers Marchenko (Hank & Frank) really are away from the public eye.
In a bonus zapfic entry, journalist Geraldo Rivera finds himself having to talk about David Guardia again. This time he's doing it as a guest for an online-only podcast where he was invited to discuss some other topic.

Our Heroes pass by San Francisco, so they are still in Northern California. Along the way they pass by not only Pebble Beach, site of one of the better PGA tournaments, but also areas associated with native San Franciscan Clint Eastwood. Lindsay Etxerberria sees David Guardia console a homeless veteran, a Marine. She also discovers a game played by Sanjay Rampersad and Lionel Odunsi; the game uses a 20-sided die known as a D20.
At LeoThreads
Initially looking forward to beginning her new life in Riverside where she would grow into her own person in both life and faith, Lindsay Etxerberria changes her mind to remain with Our Heroes. Harry Hoqualogue made a life-changing decision of his own when he wanted to be baptized. Yet a third life-changing decision was made when David Guardia and Rhonda Bella became husband and wife.
