What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.
More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

In between nearly 18.5 miles separating Chelsea & Vinita is White Oak. We took a meal break in at the Hi-Way Cafe in Vinita. The establishment is watched over by a 24-ft tall "Muffler Man" named Big Bill, installed in June 2023. |

ποΈ To this day, attractions are being added to places which would be along Route 66 had this legendary road not been rendered obsolete by the Interstate Highway System currently being used across the nation. Even though it's under cover of current road systems and their nomenclature, Route 66 retains its hold on the imaginations of many travelers. It's as much an attraction as is any of the tourist attractions built on it over the decades. |

Old Route 66 continues 10 miles east of Vinita before it turns north & east toward Kansas. That's where it turns due north about 4.5 miles, a short distance away from Afton. We only know we're on "66" because of painted signage. |
---|
ποΈ Once in a while, pieces of junk get transformed into works of art of one style or another. This is not a Route 66 thing, either, as this can be seen along many roads throughout the nation (probably in other countries as well, I can't say for sure). In this case, shells of abandoned cars were painted in various colors in a tie-dye fashion and "branded" with the number 66 on at least one of them. While in theory the number 66 can refer to anything, the context at that location clearly indicates Route 66. |

2 miles east of Afton the road shoots due north 8 miles; then it snakes briefly into Miami, where there are as many tans as in THE Miami but fewer sets of thong and g-string bathing suits. No kit cars, Elvis, or jai-alai for us. |
---|
ποΈ "Miami"-- with no other words-- without a doubt refers to the international city found in South Florida. The 2nd most famous Miami which I know about is Miami, Ohio; this is home to a university and its (American) football program. Should I have known there would be other place names called "Miami" elsewhere? I should have known this, yet I found myself surprised when I encountered Miami, Oklahoma, US on the digital maps. ποΈ Miami Vice was a ground-breaking crime drama which aired on the NBC television network from 1984 through 1989. It had become famous for many reasons, among them its preference for pastels over pure tints, the Art Deco architecture, and its use of music to move along the story. During the opening credits, there are scenes of people in bathing suits, including thongs and g-strings. In another scene in the opening credits, two jai-alai players are scene keeping the pelota in play on the fronton where they play the sport. One of the lead characters was known for driving around town in a Ferrari, and the first one he road was actually a Corvette disguised as a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder thanks to a kit designed for it. This same character also lived on a houseboat with a pet alligator he called Elvis. |

Miami, OK is just as colorful as Miami, FL, only its palette features pure tints rather than pastels. 5 miles north is Commerce, hometown of Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Mickey Mantle. I made sure to get photos by his statue. |
---|
ποΈ Commerce, Oklahoma, US is located in the northeast part of the state. It is best known as the home town of perhaps its most famous resident, baseball player Mickey Mantle. He played for the New York Yankees during their heyday in the 1950s and early 1960s. He was such a prolific home run hitter that (aside from Babe Ruth, of course) he was the standard by which may players were compared for generations to come. In 1961, when Roger Maris hit 61 home runs to break the record set by Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle was forced to cut short his season due to injury; at that point, he had hit 54 home runs. ποΈ How does Mickey Mantle fit into GHAWG? David Guardia and his father were Yankee fans, and they visited Yankee Stadium in The Bronx for many games. Pops, as David called him, would have seen Mickey Mantle himself play. Because he was born during Mickey Mantle's final season in 1968, David only knew Mickey Mantle as a Hall of Fame player and much-loved old-timer who paid the price for his alcohol abuse due to years of the high-charging nightlife he lived. It's not a knock against Mickey Mantle; that's simply documented fact. David never held this aspect of Mickey Mantle against him, he simply accepted it as part of who he was. |

Commerce is inside territory in Oklahoma known as the Quapaw Nation, which we entered as we rode north past North Miami. This part of Old Route 66 is actually on Highway 69 & 69 ALT. We had lunch at Dallas Dairyette in Quapaw. |

ποΈ Technically, the United States consists of "the Several States"; at the time of the nation's founding, these were the 13 colonies which later became the first 13 states. However, not all the land within "the Several States" was theirs: the Indian tribes lived on those lands. This fact was so important that it was included in the Constitution of the United States, which considers Indian tribes sovereign nations in their own right. This means that their laws supersede those of the states in which they are located. How this is handled in fact these days, I cannot say. (In recent decades, the name "Native American" became the name of choice to use in the United States; Canadians refer to their Native Americas as First Nations people [which is accurate].) |

"If we quit right now," Sanjay said to me and Rhonda, "we have more than enough images and multimedia content to upload. "Wait until we reach Chicago," said Rhonda. "Can we be able to monetize them?" I asked Sanjay; he nodded. |

ποΈ One of the things David Guardia's wife, Rhonda Bella Guardia, impressed upon him was the need to document their travels. One reason for this is to share their experiences so they can enjoy retelling their tales with each other and to anyone else who would be interested. As an independent trucker, she was on the road often; that's why this was an important point for her. Since David spent much of his adult life within a 20 mile radius of Bayonne, New Jersey, US, he didn't have many opportunities to travel away from home, so documenting his travels wasn't as much of a concern for him. Another reason for documenting their travels is more practical: content creation to sell various products. This is one of the tasks taken on by Sanjay Rampersad to assist David and Rhonda (actually, it's more like Rhonda and David since she's driving this project). As a bonus, Sanjay is including this task as part of his independent study for the business degree he will receive from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. What can they make using their recorded experiences? This is what we'll see, in part, in the sequel zapfic serial code-named Blue Lion . |

"2 types of ETs come here in peace," Hank tells Lindsay. "Pacifists & conquerors. We won't know which of these they are, and those we charge to protect us aren't 100%." "That's why self-defense can't be outlawed," says Frank. |
---|
ποΈ This may look like a discussion about science fiction movies, but it's actually the vehicle Hank and Frank are using to explain certain basic concepts they hold dear as libertarians; among these is one of the most fundamental rights: self-defense. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are why we were bestowed natural rights by Our Creator (whatever faith or believe system you hold dear, replace "Our Creator" with your preferred name). If we're going to exercise our right to life, that means we need to be able to defend ourselves from the loss of our lives. So this means we are entitled to exercise self-defense in order to preserve our own lives. While it may seem self-evident to us (whether we're libertarians or not), a certain segment of the society wants to ban self-defense. While Kyle Rittenhouse prevailed in his self-defense claim, Daniel Penny is forced to stand trial because the grand jury did not accept his claim to self defense. Prior to joining David Guardia and the group which would later be known as Felix Legion, former far-left activist Lindsay Etxeberria would have been one of the people opposing self-defense on principle due to the programming she had accepted after high school. |
