I can't tell if everything planned together to play a prank on me today. Since I implored selling Netflix logins as a side hustle, the money I use to run the business got tied up elsewhere due to lots of unexpected expenses. I needed a replacement so I could meet my customers' demands. I called lots of people to assist me with 15,000 naira but everyone ended up with excuses. I called my brother who knows I do that and he gave me the same response, then I called my place of work, the response wasn't anything different. I decided to rest the case.
Then, today being April Prank Day, I fell victim to a prank that left me fuming for minutes. I was awake until 2AM yesterday, after posting on Hive and sending new month messages to my friends. I sat thinking about how I could prank my friends, which story should I cook up that they will buy. After numerous thoughts with nothing coming in, I gave up
and went to bed.
First April is always a day when pranks reign like a crown king. The good thing about April pranks is that no matter how painful they may be, one will always end up laughing afterward.

This morning, I missed a call from my brother. Immediately I stepped out of the bathroom, I called back. He began by wishing me a happy new month, and then he asked me, "have you sorted the monetary issue you talked about yesterday?" I responded with negative affirmation and he replied again "there is this money I was expecting that I received today, anyways, let's chat on WhatsApp," oh! How my heart leapt with joy; I was the happiest person in that moment. I began seeing April as a fruitful month.
He chatted with me and asked if my Zenith Bank account was correct. "You should go for a better bank, even with the everyday charges and all, you are still banking with them."
"Which do you recommend?" I don't know was hhis response, so he typed sent beneath it. Immediately I rushed and my eyes opened in shock.
Seeing a notification of 20,000 with a popular third-party app, without clicking on the proof sent to me, I rushed to my bank app and started refreshing. I refreshed for like three times with nothing. I rushed back to him and told him I haven't seen it.
"That's part of what I just complained about, the delay in sending notifications. You don't have a choice but to wait for it."
I checked my app hoping to see something. As if that wasn't enough, another friend of mine came in with a similar prank, he promised to credit my account, and I saw the successful transfer. Since he had never transferred money to me before, I decided to click on it, only to see 'APRIL FOOL' spelled in bold. How I laughed, it was then I decided to confirm if my brother's own isn't the same and lo and behold it was the same thing I saw. Since he had gone offline, I picked up my phone and called him instantly, of all things you can think of pranking me with is money. How could I have fallen victim to this even when I remember early hours of the day and know vividly today is always a day of tricks and pranks.
As my account balance remained empty the reality of being fooled on April Fool's Day remained. Though I felt so bad when I realized the whole thing was a prank , I later saw myself laughing at my eagerness for money to the extent that the memory of what happened today escaped my mind all because of my urgent need for money.
