Dear friends, today I want to show you one of the most beautiful avenues in our city, the Avenue of the Presidents. It is also called Calle G because it is the consecutive letter that corresponds to its name in that area of Vedado.
This avenue was designed from its beginnings in the 20th century as a wide avenue with a large central promenade dividing the avenue in two, running opposite directions. This promenade is lined with many trees and ornamental plants that make it very pleasant. There are also numerous benches for resting along the entire length of the promenade.
On both sides of the central promenade are large and majestic houses with beautiful architecture and splendid gardens. It's a very peaceful area. It's very pleasant to hear the birds chirping, which abound thanks to the leafy trees, making walking through this area a complete pleasure.
The vegetation is very diverse. At the end closest to the sea, beach pines abound because they withstand the close exposure to the salt spray coming from the sea.
I take advantage of the shade of the trees to take photos because the sun was very intense.
But what distinguishes this avenue and what gives it its name is the presence of several monuments and sculptures dedicated to Latin American presidents who are remembered for their important actions for the well-being of their people.
One of the most beautiful monuments is that of Simón Bolívar, over 3 meters high. The figure of the hero and his horse are made of bronze, and its pedestal is made of gray marble, very elegant.
There is also a monument to the Mexican Benito Juárez, a very elegant bronze work on a marble and stone pedestal. The figure of Benito Juárez stands upright with the flag draped over his shoulder.
Beneath his feet, you can read the phrase "Between individuals, as between nations, respect for the rights of others is peace." Wise words, there is nothing better than respecting what belongs to others, whatever it may be; it guarantees peace for all.
The Ecuadorian general Eloy Alfaro, president of Ecuador at the end of the 19th century, also has an important monument on this Cuban avenue. His rebelliousness is highlighted by the machete he holds in his right hand. This work is very interesting because the rock alludes to the volcanoes of his beautiful country.
The work dedicated to Omar Torrijos of Panama is very beautiful and of great significance. His bust has his hands clasped on a rock that resembles the Panama Canal, a beautiful way of representing his struggle for his country to recover this territory.
We continued walking down the avenue and came across the salute of Salvador Allende, former president of Chile. The monument consists of a bust of the president in black marble with the Chilean coat of arms in front, his right hand raised in a salute.
For a long time, this avenue was a place where young people, mostly university students, met at night, spending time talking and singing with guitars in hand. You could see different groups in sections according to their affinities. But now the landscape has changed drastically; the park remains empty, as most of the young people have emigrated in search of better opportunities.
I wanted to show you this important and beautiful avenue through its monuments. You could also appreciate the gardens and the wide variety of ornamental plants and trees that beautify the place, provide shade, and also shelter the birds that brighten the place with their presence and songs.
It was a great pleasure for me to take this tour, but I owe you all the honors, as I missed the opportunity to visit the largest and most majestic monument located at the beginning of the avenue that intersects 29th Street. I still had a long way to go and couldn't continue in that direction, but I promise I'll go and visit it and show it to you. This work also deserves to be seen by everyone.

Explorando la Avenida de los Presidentes en La Habana
Estimados amigos, hoy les quiero mostrar una de las avenidas más bellas de nuestra ciudad, la Avenida de los Presidentes. También se le denomina Calle G porque es la letra consecutiva que le corresponde como nombre en esa zona del Vedado.
Esta avenida se proyectó desde sus inicios en el siglo XX como una amplia avenida con un gran paseo central dividiendo la avenida en dos con direcciones opuestas. En este paseo hay muchos árboles y plantas ornamentales que lo hacen muy agradable. También hay numerosos bancos para descansar a todo lo largo del paseo.
A ambos lados del paseo central hay grandes y majestuosas casas con bella arquitectura y esplendidos jardines. Es una zona muy tranquila, es muy placentero escuchar el trinar de las aves que abundan gracias a los frondosos árboles, por lo que caminar por esta zona es de un disfrute total.
La vegetación es muy diversa, en el extremo próximo al mar abundan los pinos de playa porque soportan la exposición cercana al salitre que proviene del mar.
Aprovecho la sombra de los árboles para tomar las fotos porque el sol estaba muy intenso.
Pero lo que distingue a esta avenida y lo que le da su nombre es la presencia de varios monumentos y esculturas realizadas a presidentes latinoamericanos que son recordados porque hicieron importantes acciones por el bienestar de sus pueblos.
Uno de los monumentos más hermosos es el de Simón Bolívar, tiene más de 3 metros de altura. La figura del prócer y su caballo son de bronce, su pedestal está hecho de mármol gris, muy elegante.
También se encuentra un monumento al mexicano Benito Juárez, una obra muy elegante realizada en bronce sobre pedestal de mármol y piedra. La figura de Benito Juárez está en posición erguida con la bandera sobre su hombro.
Bajo sus pies se puede leer la frase “Entre los individuos, como entre las naciones, el respeto al derecho ajeno es la paz.” Sabias palabras, no hay nada mejor que respetar lo ajeno, sea lo que sea, eso garantiza la paz entre todos.

Se destaca su rebeldía a través del machete que sostiene en su mano derecha. Es muy interesante esta obra porque la roca hace alusión a los volcanes de su hermoso país.
Es muy hermosa y de gran significación la obra dedicada a Omar Torrijos, de Panamá. Su busto tiene sus manos unidas sobre una roca que simula el canal de Panamá, muy bonita forma de representar su lucha para que su país recuperara este territorio.
Seguimos caminando por la avenida y nos encontramos con el saludo de Salvador Allende, quien fue presidente de Chile. El monumento consta de un busto del presidente sobre mármol negro y con el escudo de Chile al frente, su mano derecha en alto en posición de saludo.
Durante mucho tiempo esta avenida fue un lugar de reuniones de jóvenes por las noches, la mayoría estudiantes universitarios, para pasar el tiempo hablando, cantando con guitarra en mano. Se podían ver por tramos los diferentes grupos de acuerdo a su afinidad. Pero ya el panorama ha cambiado drásticamente, el parque permanece vacío siempre, la mayoría de los jóvenes han emigrado en busca de mejores oportunidades.
He querido mostrarles esta importante y hermosa avenida a través de sus, monumentos, también han podido apreciar los jardines y la gran variedad de plantas ornamentales y árboles que embellecen el lugar, dan sombra y además es cobija de las aves que alegran el lugar con su presencia y sus cantos.
Para mí fue un gran placer hacer este recorrido, pero me quedo en deuda con ustedes ya que me faltó visitar el mayor y majestuoso monumento que se encuentra en el inicio de la avenida que intercepta la calle 29. Aún tenía mucho que caminar y no podía seguir en esa dirección, pero les prometo que iré a visitarlo y se los mostraré, esta obra también merece ser conocida por todos.
