Some days ago, I was opportuned to meet an old friend who have been quite too busy to even have time for his friends or stop by Hive, since I last onboarded him. We discussed about a lot of things but one topic stood out for me and I notice how enthusiastic he was as he talked about it.
For more than a year now since he graduated, he has been struggling to grow his honey making business. Find a space, making bee hives, producing the best honey, finding customers and making sales, he did all that hoping to stand on his own. Today, he is doing very well for himself.
I remember buying a honey can from him about a year ago, it was so nice to use. Days ago, I got another can of honey from him and I was so surprised and happy to see the improvements he has made on his brand that you can't resist buying from him, he has made a business name.
What was most memorable about our last meeting is the joy in his face that he is doing something only he can do even if many others make honey too. From my experience and many others, good honey are hard to find but with him in our midst, we worry less about buying fakes.
I wasn't there with him when he started but like everyone else, I know just how much he must have sacrificed to get to where he is today. I saw a picture of him after he was bitten badly by the Bees, it was not a good sight but in his words, it's one of the things he has to bear with to succeed.
I've always tend to not picture what entrepreneurs have to go through before their breakthrough moments where they see the worth of their storm fight. I just see them doing well for themselves and sometimes I'll even get jealous of their achievements, like it was easy for them.
What do you think makes entrepreneurs happy?
As a non entrepreneur for now, I believe most entrepreneurs whether successful or not yet, are happy. But mainly those ones who started out because it is what they love to do and become, the forced ones will always find things to be unhappy about and many of them give up at last.
What makes entrepreneurs happy, from my experience watching a few of them closely, is because, they are doing what they love no matter how hard or difficult it is for them. They find joy in getting more orders for their skills or product, they get to do their thing on their own terms too.
Some people say that entrepreneurs are happier than people who have a stable job with a fixed salary, do you share this idea; Yes, No, Why?
I'm in between on this one, I've not had a firsthand experience of both but I do know the joy of being in your comfort and earning with it even though it's not a sure thing daily. From a movie I saw recently, having a stable income is assuring and gives time to plan with that income in mind.
It's all in the heart of the individuals to be happy or not regardless of where they find themselves, whether as an entrepreneur or a salary earner. The most important point I'll share here is that, entrepreneurs have a upper hand in being happy after they weather the storm that comes with it.
